I am having trouble finding the correct requirements for achieving a gymnast front scale on beam. Here are my questions for both arabesque and scale:

Is the base leg required to be straight or bent?
Is the base heel required to be OFF the beam? If so, is the foot on tippy toes or just need heel to be off. (I read conflicting articles on this one.)
Does the chest need to be in any certain position?
Is scale always combined with arabesque?

For just scale:

Does scale need to be higher than 45 degrees from horizontal? (And at what compulsory levels/elite)
How long does scale need to be held?

Thanks so much!

Arabesque:
  • Foot must be entirly on the beam
  • Base leg straight
  • Chest must be up
  • And in compulsories the arabesque is always combined with the scale, in optionals it doesn't need to be (I'm not sure if an arabesque has any value...the scale does if it's 180 degrees)

Scale:
  • In level 6 it does and I believe it does in level 5, for level 4 it believe it does not (it's been a while since I competed compulsories...). In optionals the scale must be 180 degrees
  • In compulsories the scale needs to be held 2 or 3 seconds, I believe the same in optionals
