Ok, so the clock has started we are offically 6 days until States. Dd has States on Sunday and a God awful report time of 5:20pm. What the heck am I going to do with her for the entire day. The location is about 1 hr away so we will go a little early and watch some of the session before hers, but geez louise, I have to fill the rest of the morning & early afternoon.

Another thing I have to think about is food, I am thinking late light breakfast and then lunch around 2 or 3 and pack a snack for her at the meet.

I can't believe that it's States time already. Anyone else feel the stress? I think I feel it worse than dd. This is dd's first shot at Level 8, so there is a possibility that she could qualify for Regionals too. In the past it was always just great to make it to States and everything else was icing on the cake, now that's not the case and she has to be top 8 AA to be guaranteed a spot at Regionals. I am definitely not putting the focus on making it to Regionals, but I guess I am afraid that she will be dissappointed if she doesn't.

Anyone else up for a States Parent Support Group this week? We can talk about how practice goes this week and anything else that comes to mind....

We have our state meet this weekend too! DD2 - L7 on Saturday at around 1pm and DD1- L5 on Sunday at the same time, we will go a little early on both days to support team mates. I hope her preparation for the week goes well, will be thinking about you guys!

Our optional girls have States this weekend. Compulsories are DONE!!! I will send you all good luck vibes for your girls at States!!

The late times ARE weird. I think my preference is to have to register them around 12 noon. I hate early, but late was weird as well. She had to check in at 4:15 this weekend, hard keeping her busy, clean, hair done, etc. LOL.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE WHO HAS STATES THIS WEEKEND!!!!!

That's exactly what I am dealing with. It only takes so long to curl her hair. I was thinking of going out to lunch, but I don't want her to have some huge lunch that would weigh her down.

Maybe the answer is shopping - maybe we will go shopping to kill time! She needs a new bathing suit and some shorts for when it gets warmer out!

We don't have the pressure of regionals yet, but I just wanted to send a little sympathy your way.

My daughter recently had a 6pm session time and so that day, I let her sleep in as long as she wanted. When she woke up, we had a leisurely, largish brunch and then started getting ready for the meet. Our meet was about the same distance away. My daughter doesn't feel well competing with much in her stomach, so she (and I) didn't eat again until after the meet. She gets her sensitive stomach from me!

I don't know if that helped any, but I hope you and your daughter are able to relax and enjoy the experience. Congratulations to her!

Thanks for sharing your experience! My dd is not a big breakfast person to begin with so I might put breakfast off as long as I can and then do lunch around 11 or 11:30.

I personally will probably not eat, my stomach is in knots on meet day, but I'd never let her know that! Don't worry though, my body can survive without a meal or 2 (ha, ha ;)).

Here's hoping that she sleeps in a little - I'm going to Casino Night on Saturday night, so I know that I'll sleep in some.

Well, I will support you all the way :D since we have STILL not heard either way about DD's petition so I'm betting that she's out. We are going to go to the 8am and 11:45 sessions to watch her best buds. Unfortunately, we have teammates in every session and won't be able to stay all day. The late one stinks and that's the one DD would be in also...GL to your DD. I'm sure she will do fine. Judging by this season's scores, I would be shocked if she doesn't make Regionals!!

Shopping sounds like a good distraction. Bridgewater mall is not far from the competition site.

Oh, GS, I feel for ya! Unfortunately, I can't join your 'pre-states support group' (dd was done in January), but I SO 'get' the feelings you are having right now!

I hate the week(s) prior to States, b/c I am such a basket case on the inside, but trying to be cool on the outside, AND support dd. Aren't we lucky we have CB, to post our worries and get some hugs and pats on the back?!

So, ((((HUGS))) to you and your dd all this week. I know she'll have a great meet:D

Thanks GMM - enjoy the earlier sessions, we do have a couple of girls in each. One of dd close friends is in the 8am session. I hope and think she will do well.

As for confirming if your dd is in, you can go to aganj.com and find all of the info on there for States including who is competing for which gyms and what age groups.

Thanks again, her age group is a toughy and if she can stay on beam she has a shot - the beam is my friend, the beam is kind to my dd, repeat...

Thank you, thank you, thank you! :p

Good luck!

It's certainly a tough report time, but on the other hand - their bodies are used to doing gymnastics at those hours so that might be an advantage.
Shopping can be a little tiring so try not to over do it....I also would not eat out before a state meet - you never know...better to eat at home exactly what she likes and however much she likes.

Just try and relax with her....:)

..

I receive these thru email since I do all of our meet registrations for team. I've also been on the aganj site and DD's name is not on the list. However, you would think out of courtesy, they would have gotten back to the gym/coach either way?

Our optional girls have State thiw weekend also, busy time.

That is so late to start. All that time to kill. I'm sure she will do fine.

***Sending you lots of GOOD LUCK vibes, and will be thinking about you.****

oh I know how you feel!!! I will send all the fairies we used this past weekend your way!!! I am soooo glad to be done. I also hate late starts as well as early...lol...that noon time is the best! I was looking at our texas usag website and was in wow on who they take to regionals. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!!! Level 8 seems so tough.. Good luck to your DD!!!!!!

My level 8 dd has state Sun. She has the first session of the day 8am. It's an hour forty min drive, so we will be up at 5 and leave by 6. We thought of staying at the hotel (it's at a hotel-casino!) but decided it wouldn't be worth it to spend another $150 for hotel for only an extra hour. Last year she missed regionals by only a couple of tenths.
Good Luck to everyone else competing this weekend!

Granny---Will be more than glad to join the group. L8 state sessions are on Sat.---L9 and 10 go on Sunday. This is going to be the toughest meet of gymmie's life for various reasons. That 12 yo group is just fearce and guess where we get to compete? The gym we left about 18mos ago due to VERY negative coaching. So, at 8am on Sat., she's got to march in there ready to compete and not think about the bad things that happened. Now, the meet wasn't even supposed to be there---the host gym had told the state association it would be in one of those big community type halls(the type that host garden, car, home improvement type shows). Suddenly(like 1.5 wks ago) it comes out it will be at their gym. Its a nice size gym with good equipment, but it will be overflowing with the crowds coming for this meet. Not a biggie to get her up since we're only about 10 minutes away. Oh yeah---she is the only one from our gym in that session so she doesn't even have a teammate to bond with and funny that 3/4 of the host gym's L8 team are all in that session. Will be curious to see the numbers in each age group.

Granny, I may not eat from about Thursday night on. Maybe we can see which mom can go without food for the longest period prior to states:)
Gymmie is doing 2 privates this week on beam/floor and most of you know I don't like relying on privates, but the beam coach seems to have taken somewhat of a spring break. This other coach already understands all the pressure gymmie will be under and is going to fine tune her fx and just give her "beam confidence."

VGM---Hoping for the best for your dd!!! So close last year to going to regionals. I'm sure she'd like to leave her current gym as a regional competitor.

BTW Granny---lousy session time for dd, but she'll manage just fine.

WE are at states in 6 days too and Emily is having mental blocks on her darn connections of the round off back handsprings. So we need all the luck in the world... that she makes the connection and doesn't stop... she does it about 50% of the time right now:(
Don't know what happened but this is very stressful to all of us...

Good luck to all of your wonderful daughters this weekend. It seems like a very busy time for you all. Sending out all my good karma, but you do have to share nicely!

You can come talk to me! I'll be there for at least the first 3 sessions and maybe the 4th too (your DD's session), I'm at merchandise table again, LOL, and DD is awards girl. Maybe we'll stay to watch. Last session is tough...the whole day to sit and wait...UGH! Look at it this way...they saved the BEST for the last! You have a great group of talented girls and I am sure there will be some GREAT gymnastics. In my short couple years of experience I've adapted a "no talk" week preceding a states meet. I don't ask about practice too much, talk about nerves, skills, scores, anything! We try to keep everything calm and normal and organized with gym bag packed, snacks/drinks ready to go, ect...sounds like you've got the day planned pretty well. Let me know if you need to know about anything in the area for the ride in and I can try to help you. This area is new to us too, our gym moved last Summer, but I know my way around pretty well for food and shopping, I live about 15 minutes away from this new location.

Granny, your DD will do fine I am sure...she has had an amazing season and I know she probably feels the pressure, expecially with the whole regionals thing, but she will shine!
