Parents Experienced Parents.. Id love your advice! San Diego area a plus!

I'm in north San Diego county and my DD has been doing gym for about 10 years now -- though not all competitively. Ironically, she just decided that she is retiring as she moves on to high school, but that doesn't change that I have seen (and heard) the gyms around the area, and DD has been...

    WAG not working to potential?

I too believe you should find a new gym. We had the same coach comments for DD before we switched. She was happy with what she was doing, a little bored, and really tired of the coaches attitude toward her. She said she was trying and she was happy with her scores. Coach wanted her to win...

Parents DD is starting to show signs of anxiety, pressure...

Also may want to remember that 11 is hard outside of the gym too. My 14 year old DD and I often look at each other when she is stressed and both say "middle school sucks". For most girls, it just does. She may be feeling a lot of stress around things that have nothing to do with actual...

WAG Concerns re future potential level 4 child

I thought I'd give a perspective from someone who is at your "what if" stage. DD is 14, competed XCEL Gold last year and this year and did reasonably well. She has just decided this will be her last season as a gymnast. There are lots of sports she could take up in high school if she wanted...

    Parents Seriously considering Xcel

So my DD older than yours, which might make a difference here. But I would really, really watch her self esteem if she is feeling like she is less than the other girls. I can't tell if she is feeling this or if you are observing less attention from the coach. We changed gyms (and from JO to...

    Parents Seriously considering Xcel

This may be an internal gym requirement. The "official" requirement is 32 in our region but my DD's previous gym required a 36 before the coach allowed girls to compete. And consistent 36s before moving up a level.

    Parents Am I overreacting?

Are you absolutely sure this is the same gym? My guess is that some variation on this is happening all over the country right now.

Parents someone PLEASE read me the riot act! I'm being a CGM!

I second (or third or fourth) the natural consequences advise. If she can see the check marks and chooses not to work on things, that is her option. Assuming the coach has clearly explained the "need to reach X standard before moving up" (if not, urge coach to do that), let her decide to do it...

    Parents Am I overreacting?

No, it was a surprise. Birthday girl had been talking for weeks about party and how the whole team would be included. As I understand it, gym had a limit on number of guests that was a few shy of the entire team. So mom decided exclude the handful of girls that were a little older than her...

Parents Tell Me Your Changing Gyms Story

The process of leaving the gym sucked for DD. Her coach was not gracious about her giving notice or the last couple of weeks when she had to attend practice but he knew she was leaving. He was no unhappy for us to leave, truth be told. He had pretty much told DD she needed to start winning or...

    Parents Am I overreacting?

We had a mom who handed up birthday invites at practice -- for a gym party/sleep over. Every girl except mine. Who was standing right there while invites were give out over her head. She's old enough to be mostly OK with "I wasn't invited" but that was over-the-top mean in my opinion. So...

Parents Help! Bun keeps falling out at competitions

Both my daughter and I hated it when the buns were required at her last gym. I know lots of the parents and girls were really frustrated trying to get the "required" style. DD's hair isn't thick but is long and slippery. I combined several things to get a bun that would both stay in place and...

WAG Odd Question about Lock-In and $

You should absolutely take this up with the business manager -- not the HC. It's great that you have someone in that position. They are legally obligated to pay you for any time you are asked to be there and are doing any sort of work-related activity. And if they don't, document everything...

    Parents Not feeling well

Maybe a sinus infection or just sinus congestion? Could be causing headache and I always get nauseous when too much mucus hits my tummy, which would happen during lots of activity. And dizzy would be caused by inner ear and/or sinus blockage moving around when she spins and turns.

    WAG Need conditioning suggestions

My daughter is in her 8th week of recovery from a broken wrist. She has 2 more weeks of no weight-bearing on her arms restrictions and she is going crazy with boredom. Her coaches haven't given her anything new to do during practices so she is repeating a few skills and dance moves over and...
