Parents Need advice re: time to be done?

A few years ago when YDD first developed her mental blocks, we let her pick a few activities to try during the summer. She chose a one day diving camp, a running class and guitar. At the dive camp and with guitar, she realized that starting over with a new sport/activity would not be an "easy...

WAG Southeastern Gymnastics in North Carolina Advice Please

We don't have first hand knowledge but compete against them frequently. They are tough to beat, but the thing that impresses me is they have a lot of "home grown" gymnasts that stay with their program from Level 4-10. They also skew on the younger side of age groups at meets

    Parents Best team messaging app

Does anyone use a group messaging app for their team? In the past we just made a group text for the parents of each level, but now we have some levels with too many to do that. We use it to arrange dinner after a meet, group outings, and updates on meets (session running over, where to park, etc).

Parents How effective are Sports Psychologists?

YDD (11, L6) saw one for mental blocks and anxiety. It had bled into school and home and sleep. Talking with the psychologist didn't necessarily help with the blocks - she still has those - but she felt it was nice to have an "outside person" to talk to about gymnastics and helped her gain...

Parents What is typical summer practice schedule level 3?

We hired a college student the last 3 years. Practice was 8:30-12:30 M-F. She took them to practice, picked them up from practice and watched them in the afternoons. I paid her full time even though she essentially had mornings off This year another working mom and I are sharing morning drop...

Parents What constitutes a braggy parent?

On the overly enthusiastic side, I dislike the parents that clap during warm up at a meet. One father had a full on stand-up, shout and clap during bar warm up. It was clearly not a skill she was recently struggling with. Plus he'd taken off his shoes, so he was already not gonna be my...

    WAG New NCAA Recruiting Rules

Actually, now that I wrote that, I realize that sometimes it is the parent that might be more excited at the idea of the offer than the kid and eager to shout it out to the world

    WAG New NCAA Recruiting Rules

Also, just for the record . . . minimum age for instagram is 13, for just this reason. I know tons of girls are on their (mine included) but young girls simply have no idea the scope that one post can reach. I would suggest her mom pay a little closer attention to her daughter's social media...

    Parents Brand New Gym

We are at a newish gym. Ours got bought out. New owners are actually much stronger coaches than our last ones, so it worked out. Definitely need some patience to go through the process with them. Logistics were very disorganized at first - schedules were late, leos were late, payments got...

WAG Discussion of abuse in USAG - Nassar

He is a sports medicine specialist, not an orthopedist. This means he did his residency in family medicine first, then did a fellowship in sports medicine after that. So he is trained as a family doc, and qualified to diagnose mono. We have a blood test that we run for mono (2 actually)...

WAG Not trying or try harder

YDD 11yo L6 also has this complaint about one of her coaches. She was not assertive enough to ask for more specific feedback or she admits that sometimes she doesn't understand what the coach wants her to do, and they would both get frustrated. Now that we figured out this negative cycle, YDD...

WAG What would decertification mean for us?

80% of sexual abuse occurs in a one adult - one child circumstance. The "parent in the room" is not common. So I agree with above poster that avoiding child alone with a coach scenario still goes a long way to prevent an opportunity for abuse
