The Balance Beam Situation has a nice database with videos of many skills, information about them, and their value in the FIG code: https://balancebeamsituation.com/elite-skill-database/.
I know that SEMO is having some funding issues and may be at risk of getting cut, so I assume that is why they were eligible this season. I don't remember them competing at USAGs in the past. Towson, Temple, Rutgers, and W&M all used to not be fully funded and were eligible to qualify, but I...
Jordyn Wieber has filed lawsuits against MSU, USAG, and USOC, and alleges that USAG destroyed the medical records of all Nassar survivors to cover up his abuse. Horrifying...
There are 3 national championships for NCAA women's gymnastics teams each year. Here's who can qualify to each:
1. NCGA Championships (end of March) - any D3 team that is a member of the NCGA, the governing body for D3 gymnastics, can qualify. This is all D3 teams except for Centenary, which...
Yes, yes, yes. Even if he was somehow able to give a correct diagnosis (which seems unlikely), any doctor who clears an athlete to do high-level gymnastics with mono is either completely ill-informed about the risks or does not care about the athlete's well-being. Like you said, it is super...
I grew up in Region 6 and, while the formats for Regionals have changed quite a bit, they always have used this "% of a %" language (which, IMO, is not very clear). I am not 100% positive, but I believe it means that they split the 112 additional spots among all of the states proportional to the...
I completely understand your point of view too. I have known many families over the years who have traveled extreme distances for their kids to chase their dreams and I have the utmost respect and admiration for that. The irony is that, for many years, families have traveled an hour or more to...
At the moment, this is pretty much true. Twistars has been the monopoly for high-level gymnastics in the Lansing area for a long time and the local economy was hit hard by the 2008 recession so I imagine it would have been very difficult to start a new gym in the past 10 years or so. The only...
Geddert has announced his plan to retire (or "retire" as the case may be):

Like you, I have been appealed by Geddert's behavior/involvement in this mess and baffled as to why anyone would continue to send their child to that gym. But then I heard a bit of a different perspective on today's episode of Gymcastic. Jessica mentioned that the podcast has heard from parents...
As always, @bookworm is spot on. It really depends on the program... I will add that D2/D3 schools seem to pride themselves on teaching their athletes new skills and connections as many don't come in with all 10.0 SVs. I, for one, learned many new skills in college!
