WAG Gym recs in West Texas?

Hello all ... I don't know if many of you remember me, but I was an active CBer a few years back, living in China! My daughter was doing gymnastics in Beijing and then we moved to a smaller city in China without a suitable program and she started ballet instead. Well, now we are finally moving...

    WAG Sophia HOPES Testing Results

I've stopped posting here since DD is now doing ballet and not gymnastics (:() but I remember Sophia from waaaay back when she was a baby level 5 and you could see the talent then, the attention to detail and form that you just don't see from your average kid that age. So glad to see her...

    WAG Quitting question

I was about 16 when I quit and for me it was very much a combination of learning how to drive and acquiring an independent social life, having increased demands at school, with AP classes and extracurriculars, knowing that I'd capped out, skill-wise, and struggling with persistent fear issues...

    WAG Score inflation?

This is definitely true. I remember competing compulsories in the early 90s, and I won a couple of events at States with scores in the 8s. You would see lots of 6s and 7s and 8s, but 9s were pretty rare.

WAG Elizabeth Price Retires from National Team to Attend Stanford

She might also be considering the possibility of injury. She's just come back from an injury as it is and staying healthy through to 2016 is by no means guaranteed. At least this way she can start her NCAA career with a rested body instead of possibly sustaining a career ending injury trying for...

WAG Social Media as Part of Gymnastics

Instagram is my social media of choice too. Some gyms have really awesome Instagram accounts, particularly some of the gyms with high level or elite gymnasts. Parkettes, for one, has a great Instagram where they post loads of gymnastics videos of their high level girls, so you get a bit of sneak...

    Parents Hi new here. Questions?

If your DD herself is wanting to switch to a different gym, that's a pretty strong indicator that the current gym isn't giving her what she needs right now. Usually the kids are the ones reluctant to make a switch (don't want to leave friends, would miss their old coach) even when switching is...

Parents Balance Beam for home use

I follow someone on Instagram who has an actual real life full balance beam (AAI, if I remember correctly ... it boggles my mind every time I see it because those things are NOT cheap) set up in their living room. Everytime she posts a video of the kid, a 6 year old, doing backwalkovers and such...

    WAG Heading to Regionals!

Congrats to your DD and to all the other optionals finishing out their seasons! Here's to a successful regionals for those going and happy uptraining time to those whose season ended with State. :)

WAG Do fears lessen once they stop growing?

MaryA, she also really did get hurt, so that's probably not helping either with this latest fear. The first "big" injury can really shake up some kids. I hurt myself on floor when I was about her age, 12ish -- broke my hand when I came down wrong on a simple ROBHS of all things. It gave me a...

Parents new to sport with 8yo, which gym?

Pretty much all 8 year old gymnasts want to go to the Olympics. Shoot, I nurtured an Olympic dream until I was about 12. I also wanted to be a veterinarian and captain of the starship Enterprise. Kids want a lot of things! It is normal for the Olympics to be their first gymnastics related goal...

    Chunsong Sheng

Yeah, I was going to say, there are videos of her competing years back and she looks exactly the same. She's just one of those people, I think, who will probably hit puberty really late. No doubt China has falsified ages and probably will do it again, but this girl is, I think, legitimately her...

    WAG Favorite Gymnast Biographies?

I recall reading a Mary Lou Retton autobiography when I was maybe 12 or 13? I don't think it had anything particularly controversial in it, but I read it a very long time ago and Mary Lou did train in the 70s and 80s, so you know, the training environment wasn't what it is today. It might be...

    Where in the world?

I'm the only one in my (adopted) country so far, although there seem to be some guests ... It doesn't identify the username with the pin, but I suppose if you already knew roughly where someone lived and they were one of the few in that area, you could track them down perhaps but it seems...

WAG Gabby Douglas leaves Chow's Gym, moves to L.A.

I think it is easy to forget that most of these Olympians are still children. In my view, Gabby's mom is certainly to blame here, as I find it impossible to believe that she is letting her 17 year old daughter call the shots for the whole family, given what we know of how she managed her...
