Parents Kip before grips vs now

Our kids get them really early - about level 2-3 for both boys and girls. But they don’t have to compete in them or use them full time until about level 4-5. That way they’re comfortable with them. Seems to work well.

    Parents Non-Gymnastics Class Types

Our gym has two levels for adults, which caters for beginners and advanced (mostly ex competitive) as well as both levels for just tumbling.

    WAG Gifts for coaches?

I agree JessSyd, in Oz. We don’t have the same system with colleges etc so giving gifts is seen as thanks. In US, where gymnastics is much more of a business, it could easily be perceived as gaining favour.

    WAG Gifts for coaches?

I think the rule might be there to take away any perception of bribing the coach or looking to be be their favourite. I work for state government in Oz - we can’t take gifts and nor can our school teachers. However, I agree, a card is totally OK.

MAG Question regarding coaching...style, I guess?

Wise words KRC. As an ex-coach - I totally agree with you.

Parents Cringy instagram gym dad has progressed to suicidal

Personally, I think he’s amazing! Although those back saltos make me cringe and that makeshift vault is scary!

    Parents Is there anything inbetween?

More than anything, they will be looking to see if she can do, or come close to doing, as they ask. For example, if the ask her to adjust her handstand in a particular way, that she can and will do that. She needs to be open minded to have a chance at being really good. Doing skills in one thing...

    Parents Is there anything inbetween?

Is the being “held back” by skills on other apparatus perhaps?

    WAG Tuition cost??

Aussie here. We live in Townsville. My DS is level 3, 9 hours per week. We pay about $400 per term (10 weeks), there are up to 10 kids and two coaches in his group - both of whom are ex-Aus gymnasts - and they are so supportive. Insurance is about $100 per year but that is set by Gymnastics...

WAG What kind of impact do the abuse revelations have on rec gymnastics?

Wish I could! We’ve only been told about the policy by our coach because we thought it was going to be in affect for term 4, which would affect both the classes I’m in. I think it has only been released to clubs at the moment. I’d love to read it and give GA some really pointed feedback!

WAG What kind of impact do the abuse revelations have on rec gymnastics?

About to be heaps in Oz. GymAus is releasing a policy pretty much banning classes with under and over 18’s mixed. This a huge blow to those of us in regional centres. Our senior boys and girls (competitive) are all mixed ages, training together, our TeamGym (rec kids and adults) will be split...

    WAG HELP with team

The fact that you still mention the word “repeating” means that you TOTALLY don’t get it. They are not “repeating”. They are staying until their ready. Sounds like s bloody school

    WAG HELP with team

Argh! Firstly, cut the crap talk about repeating. Kids go up to the next level when they are ready not in some stupid arbitrary timeframe. This is a culture change and I suggest you, and most Americans I read about on this site, make it promptly. First problem solved. Secondly, you can’t make...

    Parents Understanding mobility requirements

Welcome to a daily dilemma in MAG. Our coaches teach several levels at once and all the boys seem to progress nicely.
