I never used grips until I started doing giants because my hands are too small that the timing for the shift was off. But I hated using grips because I would peel off the bars. It took me a long time to get used to using grips and breaking them in. They do, however, help with catching releases.
For straddle cast handstands, think about leaning forward first, so that your chest is way over the bar. Then, pop your hips up while extending your shoulders and straddling. (should feel like a press on floor from here) Once you feel your legs rising past your hips, lock out your shoulders...
Mine did that too when i was learning drop kips! Whenever I'd lift my leg in a straddle it would pop, but mine hurt after awhile. You may want to start conditioning your hip flexors so they're strong enough. My hip flexors are really weak now and I realized I probably compensated with my back...
I use dowels but I think even with the regular grips they shouldn't go down that far on your fingers...
slipping off on tap swings aren't fun, and it sounds like your swings are fine. Maybe you're not turning your wrist all the way when you regrip? also, do you pull down on the bar just before...
I wasn't a club gymnast but for high school, i stayed in the gym for about the same time. For me when I got home, I ate and took a shower and then without doing anything else, I started my homework. As long as you do your homework every night, high school shouldn't be too bad. And...
I would just take it easy. I know when you push your body too hard for too long, your body lets you know its limits and that's when its too late. Just remember, you won't be doing competitive gymnastics all your life, but you need your body after you're done with gymnastics. I was a high...
I experienced numbness this year after I stopped gymnastics and it was really weird. I'm still feeling weakness behind my knee and its beginning to occur more frequently.
But anyway, for this thread, i think i had two herniated discs for about 2 or 3 years and i competed until i found out...
I think i sometimes cheat my conditioning if my body isn't feeling good. But other than that, I know that when I cheat, i'm only hurting myself by not gaining that extra muscle or flexibility.
I use neosporin a lot and it heals the rip really fast but they kinda get dry after awhile. I also use vitamin E pills and open them up to get the liquid. It smells bad and it may be weird but it works! :)
I absolutely love this movie. I watched it when I was depressed about not being able to compete my senior year in high school because of my back injury and it inspired me and made me feel a lot better. I think its the best gymnastics movie out there in my opinion.
I know its not the same but for my geingers, I started with a deep pike in the back and then when i tapped up to the ceiling, I initiated the twist with my hips and just looked for the bar. I hope it helps some, even though its not exactly the same
Good luck!!
I had that problem too!! I'm only 5' but i still hit the low bar with my toes.. Not fun.
What helped a lot for me was to watch the low bar throughout the bail until i see my toes clear the low bar. That way, i can stay in a hollow and after i see the bar pass by, i can tap.
Good luck!
First with college, they look at not only the extra curricular activities, but also your grades, volunteering, test scores, awards, etc. You can also join clubs that your high school offers. There are a lot of people who get into good colleges without participating in a single sport.
I don't...
