    Parents Xcel to JO Advice

If she wants to do it then absolutely let her try! My dd went from XB to L4 (I’m not recommending this, btw, going to L3 would be MUCH more manageable from XB and the L4 season was super rough on my dd) when she was almost 9yo and yes, the upper body strength thing was an issue for her (she was...

    Parents 2021 season

We are only having in-house meets this season (5 total). None of the parents wanted to risk exposure and it’s less expensive this way, especially if things have to be cancelled again. And I’m good with that. The less travel the better right now, IMO, and hopefully next season will be more normal.

    Parents JO, xcel, gap ??

It seems to be very gym-specific whether or not girls can/do go between Xcel and JO. Dd's former gym allowed the occasional go-between from Xcel to JO (like my dd and one of her teammates), but it was much more common for girls to go from JO to Xcel. At dd's current gym (we moved houses) it's...

8 year old dd switching from acro to gymnastics. Now xcel tryouts!

Congratulations to your daughter! Mine started going to her gym at 8 years old, as well, and is now training L7/8 at nearly-12 years old.

    Social Group Re-creation

I have a membership waiting approval for the homeschool group, and have had that status since soon after the groups were reinstated in the board change. Is there someone I should contact to check on that?

    WAG Not sandbagging, but...

Most of our L6 girls (all competed L5 last year) competed a higher difficulty than the minimum requirements on floor and beam this year, but didn't yet have the L7 skills on bars so skipping L6 wasn't an option. They know that they get no bonus points for doing the more difficult routines and...

WAG Xcel bronze to JO 4?

All right. My response will probably get long, but my daughter did this successfully. This is just one example of that move working out and I'm going to present some things for you to keep in mind when you think about your daughter's situation. I'm not going to sugarcoat and in the end I'm going...

    Parents Xcel Bronze to JO3?

In your situation I'd probably ask about privates for bars and the beam dismount as well as finding out what other new skills she will need at the tryout. The XB bars routine is the L1 JO routine (last I checked) so it's a two level jump to go to L3 from XB on bars. If your dd is competing the...

    Parents Xcel Bronze to JO3?

My dd moved from XB to JO4 nearly 3 years ago. Her biggest challenge, by far, has been bars. She only just got a 9 on bars again for the first time since moving over to JO. She was ahead for L4 on most of the other skills so putting her in L3 just for bars didn't make sense and her skills have...

Parents Does your Xcel team have travel meets?

Our Xcel teams generally attend the same meets that our compulsory JO teams attend. The farthest away meet those groups have had since dd started team gymnastics is a 4-5 hour drive and it definitely sometimes requires a hotel and/or days off work (being scheduled at 8am or on a Friday, for...

Parents Help me not be a CGM! Advice wanted about level placement.

As long as she's still uptraining I would let it be and try to just enjoy the season. Having extra time in the lower levels seems to often be a good thing for the long-term, based on my observations, and there's always the possibility that she'll end up skipping a level eventually (and ending...

    WAG Lowest score?

My dd's lowest was 7.2 on bars the first meet of level 4 a couple years ago. She didn't make either one of her kips at that meet. She came in 2nd to last on bars and the lowest score was 6.5, but I didn't see that routine so I'm not sure what happened there.

    Parents Hypermobile, loose gymnast

I was going to bring up EDS as well, honestly. I have a child who has EDS (not my gymnast). Gymnastics gets brought up periodically in EDS forums -- many members in those groups are former gymnasts and I've taken note of this. There's sometimes a fine line between having physical...
