As everyone else has said, please see a pediatric orthopedic doctor ASAP and get an MRI. My daughter suffered from a stress fracture in her L4 that ultimately forced her retirement from gymnastics. It is important to get whatever she is dealing with diagnosed quickly so you know what you are...
Sending you hugs and prayers. Hoping she can get some relief from her pain. Know that she will find something else to love and the skills and discipline she learned in gymnastics will serve her well. My daughter suffered a stress fracture in her L5 2 years ago that forced her retirement from...
Not sure if you have it in your area, but water polo is a great option. My daughter retired from gymnastics due to a back injury. She picked up water polo quickly. Her core strength and coachability really helped.
This is a very timely discussion for me as my 12 year old daughter decided to retire this week.
For us it was a gradual process but she knew when it was time. In August 2019, she was diagnosed with spondy. She was out 9 months due to lingering pain.
Doctors told her she should never practice...
That is awesome! Love to see how successful she has been in other sports! Will have to share this with my DD who is going through a back injury right now. Hopefully it will help her see that she has lots of options if going back to gym isn't in the cards for her!
I forgot to give everyone the update...
The MRI from the 2nd doctor showed that the fracture is healing. They do not know why she is still having pain, so they have sent us to a pain management doctor. Apparently this is a 3-step appointment. We will meet with the pain management doctor, a PT...
I told the Gym manager and one of her coaches at the start of her last practice. Coach #2 (the reason she left) wasn’t told until she was hugging everyone good-bye at the end of practice. (Obviously this took the cooperation of the manager and 1st coach). We did this immediately after she was...
Thanks to everyone that has replied so far. It helps to hear all the stories (the good ones and the sad ones.) It's been hard for her. She played select soccer as well as 14 hours a week of gymnastics and has gone to essentially ZERO activity. She has missed her 5th grade lock-in (at a...
My daughter is 11 (level 5/6). In August, she began having back pain. In Sept. we received a spondy diagnosis (stress fracture in her L4 vertebrae on the right side). She was out of all physical activity (except PT) for 6 weeks, then braced for 6 weeks, then out 6 more weeks. She was finally...
My daughter was diagnosed with a stress fracture in her l4 vertebrae on 9/23. She has been restricted from all activity except PT since then. The PT has cleared her this week to do some swimming. We go back to the orthopedic doctor on Wednesday 11/6. He indicated that even in the best case...
I got the call at 6:00 p.m. tonight from the orthopedic doctor. It is a confirmed stress fracture in the L4 vertebrae on the right side. Definitely not what we were hoping to hear, but it was kind of what I was expecting after talking to the doctor and reading what everyone had to say here. We...
Update: We went to the doctor today. He ordered an MRI, which we got this afternoon. He suspects a stress fracture but he (and we) are hoping he is wrong!!! He is sending us to PT 2x/week for 6-8 weeks regardless of what the MRI shows. We will know more later this week. I have the CD with her...
