Ideas for strength conditioning exercies at home

All around I would say. In the short term arms for bars but watching the optional girls I know she will need more power all around. She has strong level 6 tumbling skills, just trying to keep her prepped for what is coming I suppose.

Parents Not just flyaway now but she got a layout flyaway tonight

I can confirm tough bar scoring. My daughter scored a 9.075 at State last spring as a level 5 and received a 6.6 bar score last Saturday. She is not too into scores though and is happy right now just doing a clean level 6 routine.

Ideas for strength conditioning exercies at home

I have a 10yo level 6 gymnast that needs to build up strength (mostly for bars). What are some good exercises we could do at home as a family that would help compliment what she is doing at the gym (I know I need more exercise, too! :) ) Probably the main thing she is working on at the moment...

Kristina Baskett worked out at our gym tonight!

Her club coach is now at our gym and I thought she was just visiting but she was here again tonight and it looks like she is doing choreography for some of the optional girls.

Kristina Baskett worked out at our gym tonight!

Tonight at the gym Kristina Baskett from the University of Utah was there and worked out for a couple of hours. It was amazing to see such a high level gymnast in person. She mostly messed around on the bars, little bit on the floor. Everything she did looked amazing just because even the...

    Gym problems - Suggestions please

Having just read through this post it makes me appreciate our gym all the more. The gym owner is very supportive of the booster club (even shares profits from home meets), we have no equipment charges, they have made major investments in facilities and equipment, and they have added top-notch...

Daughter off to U of Washington camp this week

The camp at the UW is a day camp so we'll get a daily report on how things are going. She is very excited, first camp. If this goes well hopefully she'll be able to do an overnight camp next year (She'll be 11 then so we'll see). Will be interesting to see what skills they work on, the UW...

Parents Our turn to go to camp..........

I am curious to hear how the nurse part goes. My wife is thinking about doing the same thing next year to help with the camp expenses. We currently know nothing about the process so if you can share your experience that would be great!

    Parents Summer skills being trained???

This is a fun time at our gym as they are not yet to the point of fine tuning their routines for competition in the fall yet they have a lot of their L6 skills down and are learning new stuff. On beam they are doing RO, BHS, and CW BT dismount, bars they are doing whatever the steps are that...

Parents How long did it take your child to move up?

Out gym does not use scores at all for moving up. You have to have specific skills mastered. They say that scores show how well you are doing at your current level, not how ready you are for the next. This has caused some issues with parents and gymnasts when lower scoring gymnasts move up...

Parents How long did it take your child to move up?

I am not sure if one competetive season means a full year or if a fall and spring seaon equals two seasons for the purpose of the poll. In our gym most of the changes are made after the spring State but there are occasional move-ups after the fall State. My understading is that they are...

    Book/Website with description of elements

As a parent of a compulsory gymnast, knowing nothing about gymnastics has not been that hard for me up to this point as everyone is doing the same routines and it is easy to see how well everyone is doing compared to everyone else. I am seeing though that I am going to need to learn the names...

    Hello everyone!

Nothing specific, just trying to soak it all up so we will be good when the time comes, she has just started level 6 so should be a little while before she moves up again. It has been quite a whirlwind as we had no idea gymnastics would end up such a large part of our lives when she started...

How long is your drive to the gym?

It is 15 minutes for me but even with a short(er) drive I usually stick close at Starbucks and put in a couple of hours work on the computer rather than go back home.

    Hello everyone!

Hi there, I am the parent of a newer gymnast (2 years) and am just starting to look around at what forums are out there. My daughter is competing this year as a level 6 so some of the elements are starting to look a lilttle scary (more for me than her I think). Since I only know our local...
