Parents Mental block on bars - Level 6

My DD, 12 year old level 6/7 just went through this. She had no fall or anything that caused the mental block though it came out of nowhere. Although she definitely had a fear of giants ahead of this (although she would do them). Her coach was luckily very patient and took her back to basics...

    Parents Struggling level 6 gymnast

My daughter is a level 7 this year. Actually has a meet this afternoon. She has never won a meet nor been at the top of the podium. Highest score so far this year, a 33. But she loves gym. Human nature causes us to get wrapped up in scoring. I'm guilty of it at times too. You got great advice...

Parents Suddenly won't let go for flyaway

It is amazing that she has made it to level 7 at such a young age! My girl is 12 next week but like yours these fears came clear out of the blue. No fall or injury that caused it at all. I have found asking zero questions and not bringing these fears up at all to be helpful. Best of luck to her...

Parents Suddenly won't let go for flyaway

I'm sorry you're going through similar issues but it is good to know we're not alone. My DD is a first year 7 but will surely repeat next year which is totally fine. We are 3 meets into the season and its been trying to say the least. At this point she is back to doing cast handstand to flyaway...

    Parents Puma Jr retires…

I just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed reading your posts. They are always so real. Best of luck to Puma Jr. with diving and everything the future holds for her. She should be so proud with sticking with this incredibly hard sport for so many years!

Parents Suddenly won't let go for flyaway

My DD had a really great bars year last year too. Didn't win bars at states, but did medal. It's the craziest thing how this comes out of the blue. Her coach is taking her back to basics which I know is the right thing for him to do and is being so patient but doing basics means shes doing bars...

Parents Suddenly won't let go for flyaway

Your reply is so helpful! Its good to know my DD isn't alone. Gymmastics has just been such a roller coaster ride for her. This time last year we were dealing with fear of the beam. I have to admit my go to when she goes through these hard times is wanting her to just leave the sport and try...

Parents Suddenly won't let go for flyaway

Thanks for your reply! I wish she had a pit at her gym but unfortunately there isn't one. Yes, they do happen at the worst times. I'm trying to be laid back about it and realize that these kind of things just happen in gymnastics but of course I hate seeing her stressed.

Parents Suddenly won't let go for flyaway

My DD who is 11 and competing level 7 this year has suddenly stopped doing flyaways. Tuesday she had a great bar day was doing giant into a layout flyaway and also used the strap bar some to improve her form on her giants. My husband caught the tail end of practice and said she was letting go...

Parents Crazy Gym Parent Behavior (Yours or Others)

My mouth dropped open on that one. She should be ashamed of herself. I am so glad that atleast your daughter didn't have to hear it. Just sickening behavior. Jealousy in it's worst form.
