Doing Privates for a girl from another gym

My daughter has done it with blessings all around in three different gym situations.

    Competition leo

Go to a local dance shop- they’ll have a good selection of leo liners in stock that she could try on with her comp leo and walk out with that day.

    Competition leo

Isn’t it technically already a deduction- if the judge chooses to take it? It’s my understanding that they’ve simply decided to start enforcing their already existing rules more stringently next year.

    Daughter retired. Mom can't.

It reads to me that she has. I couldn’t imagine someone telling my heavier daughter that she couldn’t wear bodycon or a bikini- she’d tell them that she looks great and can wear what she likes, all while looking at them like they have three heads. Saying her daughter’s closet had to change in...

    Daughter retired. Mom can't.

Ok, I’m gonna be the bad guy here but you really shouldn’t be telling her- gently or not- that those clothes aren’t for her anymore. New body or old, any clothes she likes are for her. I’m sure you didn’t mean to, but that came off as terribly body shaming. I promise you she picks up on it just...

    TOPS teams are out!

Awe, yay! My DD’s little gym sister is on the list.. she’s amazing, and DD is so proud of her! She competes JO, T&T, and rhythmic. How exciting for all the girls!

HELP: Breaking a gym $$ contract to change gyms

Perhaps. When we told the new gym in our situation where my DD was coming from- we were forthright with them- the new owner shook his head and said of course, switch her right away, I know all about him. Some coaches/gyms reputations precede them.

HELP: Breaking a gym $$ contract to change gyms

I wanted to add, we signed a similar contract once. The gym was a terrible, abusive place, and we left without notice due to feared retribution. My daughter competed at a meet, cried on the way home because she was so anxious to go back the next day, and we decided she never had to go back...

HELP: Breaking a gym $$ contract to change gyms

I doubt it’s actually enforceable. Is there anything in the contact that stipulates behavior of gymnasts, coaches, or the gym? The bullying going unchecked surely voids it?

    Floor Routines

We have always paid choreographers directly, in cash. For both music and routines. Only time gym was involved was when the routine was shared amongst a level.

They are counted separately and are both A skills.

    Stress Fracture Sesamoid Bone

Honestly, the only thing I could recommend is making her take time off to heal properly. Gymnastics is fleeting and pain can last a lifetime if you don’t care for the body properly- she obviously needs her feet forever. The only time I personally would be willing to even discuss training on an...

    Tumbling without back handsprings

Yes you definitely can- but whether or not it’s allowed will depend on level and gym/coach philosophy. My daughter had a teammate who did double flips out of a roundoff, and my daughter doesn’t do bhs on any apparatuses and was still fine- top 3 on floor two years in a row.

Experienced Artistic, but fairly new Rhythmic mom

Always trust your gut. Just because the hours are less and the skills less dangerous doesn’t mean the sport cannot be hard on their bodies or their minds- the coaching tends toward old school Eastern European, and even though we love my DD’s coaches and team fiercely, they did tend to treat the...

Experienced Artistic, but fairly new Rhythmic mom

Hi! Oddly enough my DD was the test subject, so to speak, for rhythmic express (xcel) for the entire state of California. It was.. interesting.. to be the first and only, but she did love rhythmic very much, and would have continued if they’d know what the program even was when we moved to VA...

    Whistleblowing

There is really no process for reporting emotional abuse to the police, nor even a true consensus of what constitutes it. That said, I forced my daughter to quit when I realized how damaged she was- the coach was a master manipulator, even touting his degree in child psychology as a means of...

    Whistleblowing

I also wanted to add separately that my younger daughter, who used to be a gymnast, dealt with some borderline coaching. She was told she was faking injuries and illness, publicly embarrassed, told she couldn’t set foot in the gym with her “injuries”- quotes added by the coach. Eventually they...
