See me on Coaches on Couches.

Hello everyone! My good friend and colleague John Min, owner of MAGMA, has invited me to be a panelist on his "Coaches on Couches" series. Using Zoom calls as the medium, Coaches on Couches is a weekly gymnastics education program that touches on an incredible variety of topics within the...

    Huge life changes... again!

Hello ChalkBucket friends! Life has been nuts lately, hasn't it? 2020 has been an insane year for everyone so far, and I really hope it gets better from here on out. I hope all of you are doing well, staying healthy, and keeping your spirits up. Optimism is a strong weapon right now. I'd like...

Junior Olympic Questions about Xcel to JO

I am very glad to hear that you are taking a patient, methodical approach towards competition with this athlete! Honestly, in my own personal opinion, competition should mean absolutely nothing in this coming year, solely because the coronavirus has thrown us all for such a loop. As soon as we...

    New D1 NCAA WGYM program

It was recently announced that Randy Lane, former assistant head coach at UCLA, will become the head coach for the Sharks! There is a nice interview on one of the recent Routine podcast episodes with him, and he gives a lot of information and details about his plans and goals for the program...

    Is MAG better than WAG?

I 100% agree with this. There are emotional and physical differences between men and women, but we all still have consciousness and, therefore, humanity. Treatment of humans should be equal; there is no need to modify treatment of an individual based on their biological sex. There’s a quote I...

For Coaches Training game: brainstorm/game design

I have a few questions @Geoffrey Taucer: Why do upgrades get negative points? Each gymnast plays the game by performing a routine? Or are they allowed to show individual skills? What denotes the end of the game and the winner? Are there rounds to the game? I'm also thinking if there is a team...

The Video Game Thread Strikes Back

I'm a little late to this thread, but I just have to brag! I just got the platinum trophy in Death Stranding. Man, Kojima is such a visionary! Being a diehard Metal Gear fan for most of my gaming life, I was incredibly intrigued by him striking out on his own and creating Death Stranding with...

Just a question about current WAG vaults?

A quick fun fact: the double twisting Yurchenko is a named skill: it’s called the Baitova, named after Belarusian gymnast Svetlana Baitova. She competed it in 1987, and I believe she got it named after her at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

    Ideal training hours

My new job is absolutely fantastic! I am learning so much every single day. It is exciting and enlightening, and I look forward to going to the gym everyday. :D In other news, I admit I haven’t been around at all lately, and that’s because I’ve just been super busy. However, I aim to change...

    European championships

Yeah, Nina has been totally dominating every World Cup event on bars. The fact that she and her coaches decided to forego Euros is interesting. I would assume they want to keep her healthy until the Olympics, with nothing left to prove this quad as far as bars are concerned. She has already won...

Funny how things work out sometimes.

Life is interesting. Let me tell a story. About three weeks after I told the owners of my current gym that I would be leaving after the end of the season, I got a call from the mother of one of my old gymnasts I used to coach back when I had created my original team (the Aero Flyers for those...

Big life changes... but all for the better!

Thank you everyone for the wonderful kind words! I am excited to be schooled and humbled, haha. I am going to see what my coaching style can bring to the culture at ENA. The atmosphere there already seems good, but I'm sure I can contribute! I have already created some rapport with some of the...

    Go Jade!

Maria Paseka could give her a run for her money, especially if she attends more Apparatus World Cups than Jade and wins them. The level of competition at the World Cups this quad has been top notch and way more exciting than they have ever been before. It will be very interesting to see how...

Junior Olympic JO National Championships proposal.

Has anyone else had a chance to read this yet? JO National Proposal. I can't decide if I am completely in favor yet, but I like a lot of the ideas presented, and some really good arguments are made. I'm looking forward to the discussion on this one! I think an overhaul would be nice.
