    Strength Training With Weights

Sounds more like cross fit with a side a gymnastics! Conditioning is important but I'd be looking elsewhere for my kid. It sounds like you're leaving which also sounds like a good thing :) We've had a lot of kids in heel cups but not alot of injuries at the lower levels that would definately be...

For Parents NCAA eligibility rule changes and how it effects endorsements, commerical work ect.

From the limited info I have read some places have started to make the move but it is far from finalized or accepted by NCAA so I would not jump to do anything yet. I would see how the chips fall before risking eligibility. But thats just me..and my kid has no pending money making opportunities...

    Strength Training With Weights

That is definitely more than our gym. Pre-Covid they would do maybe 45 min of a 4 hour work out at each practice. (level 3-4 they practiced 3-4 times a week) Now DD is level 7 and still only does 45 min of conditioning (sometimes its home conditioning on zoom and sometimes in gym conditioning...

For Parents Level 2 or Level 3

Our Gym does have a level 2 but they only do one meet (the big "home" meet) and they dont require them to get the comp leotards. Because of this they really dont spend a lot of time on the routines. Its mainly like a pre team lots of focus on skills and drills. Level 3 gets a bit more serious at...

    For Parents Hello old friends

You know when you are reading reviews of something online and it seems like its all negative? I often think to myself its because you are more motivated to go back and write something if your upset in those situations. I think for gymnastics its the opposite problem. All you tend to see are...

For Parents Possible switch to cheer

I got the impression that it was comp cheer not school cheer but I could be wrong I think comp cheer is a longer season/time commitment but not as intense as gymnastics is in most places. And School cheer can be time consuming at least for the fall and winter schedules (I did school cheer...

For Parents Possible switch to cheer

One of my daughters friends switched to cheer and seems really happy. Her older sister cheers so she knew alot of people going into it. There are a lot of cross over skills between the two sports so that will definately help. Cheer teams always love a good tumbler and stunting should come easy...

    For Parents Struggling Gymnast

I always remind my kid not to compare herself to other kids but rather look how far she has come and how much she has improved. I will remind her of things she used to struggle with that are now easy for her (remember when you thought you would never get X skill? and look at you now kind of...

For Parents So frustrated with gym and video capabilities

Our Gym said they were going to set up remote viewing but it hasnt happened. They said they have had tons of issues with the technology so thats why they havent rolled it out to parents yet. That being said we have other viewing options. They allow limited waiting room viewing (its discouraged...

    2021 Goals

Goals for me: Get more active, read more books, spend less time on my phone Goals for older daughter: maintain the good headspace shes in. Last year was rough and this year she seems like a whole new (happier) kid I hope we can keep it up. The happy kid has equaled great progress in gym which is...

    International Elite Maggie Haney suspended

It has to be so disheartening to do the right thing and have your voice negated in a technicality. I see how they voided the testimony but it still seems suspect to me that such a high profile case was mishandled. I hope that the civil lawsuits will have a punitive effect on her. I’m not one to...

For Parents What do you consider to be a good score?

@Ty’s Dad I think sometimes you make a straightforward statement on here that is probably more nuanced in your actual life, and people take the straightforward statement as the hard facts and are a bit shocked at how black and white the issue appears to you. I will admit at first I didn't agree...

For Parents What do you consider to be a good score?

I always say any score better than your last score is a good one :) That being said for my kid what we subjectively consider a good score depends on the event. If she gets a 9 on vault or beam that is excellent, for floor and bars above a 9.3 I would say. I would say that generally the goal is...

    For Parents Difficult decisions

My youngest took a while to find a sport. We started in Dance and thats a good thing to do even if its not going to be your "sport" I kept asking her about specific sports, field hockey, swiming, tennis, soccer, golf, got all nos then i mentioned Baseball and she said she wanted to try it so we...

I am still failing to understand How/Why Riley's testimony was voided? Am I missing something?

60 Minutes Tomorrow about MAG at Minnesota

It drives me nuts to see successful programs cut in favor of flashy unsuccessful programs. A collegue was at a school with a highly successful mens swimmin program that was cut. But thier Football team that won 1 game but made an obscur bowl game years ago was miraculously safe. Mens wrestling...

A general and hypothetical discussion of the industry's handling of abusive coaches

In this day and age its surprising more gyms dont have and WANT extensive video recording systems for their own protection (since there are so many false accusations against upstanding coaches right **eye roll**) We had an issue at our gym where a girl was bullying other kids and cameras helped...

For Coaches Elf on the shelf

Ive tacked up Net Lights to the wall and put the elf on that. Looks really cute when plugged in and not alot of work plus on the wall so out of the way. You could even put up a small string of Icle lights and have them work their way down the line or have it hang like a rope and have them work...

    For Parents Help with gym/advice

I would be less worried about TOPS if the rest of the program is good as others have said. I would also see if your DD is happy at the lower levels (with less stress) or frustrated. I think the other important factor for the current gym would be uptraining. Is she at a lower compulsory level but...

    USAG headscratcher ...

From what I heard from a friend that lives and works in Orlando Disney and Universal are not as "safe" and "covid free" as one would imagine or that is being reported. He made it sound like staff just stay home if they are sick and either dont get tested or dont report results. This is all...
