WAG I want to go on vacation!!!

I know your DD is 14, but as soon as I turned 16 I wasn't vacationing with my family all the time because I worked. I stayed home for weekend ski trips, I would meet them on for the weekend during the summer if they were vacationing locally, etc. I actually think your DD is being very...

Parents Dd5 wants to quit, so she says

My DD started on pre-team last year and everything was ok at the beginning and then started to dislike gym. It wasn't fun for her anymore, and even though she was one of the strongest in the group, I think she felt like she was struggling with the new skills they were trying to learn. There...

WAG Advice for Young Level 4

My DD5 also deals with some of these issues, and all of these suggestions are great....gave me a lot to think about. The one thing I would add is not to push things, there will end up being anxiety about the anxiety...and believe me that can happen as I am an over-thinker. Try (and believe me...

    WAG Kyla Ross' Coach

I said the same thing to my husband last night. Obviously I don't know anything about her, but love that she seems so happy and supportive.

Power Gymnast, looking for inner dancer?

I would talk to your doctor about this one, especially since you had a back injury. I know this is a bizarre comparison, but the toes on my left foot separate with no problem at all, but the toes on my right I actually have to focus and concentrate on separating them. For some reason the...

Parents How do you get your child to believe in themselves?

My DD has so much confidence in many ways, but gets really nervous about her abilities as well. She is young (6 in October) but what has been resonating with her lately is me telling her she is strong vs. good. She knows she is strong, and she knows it is a good thing to be strong. We were...

    Breakfast food ideas?

I remember hating breakfast when I was a pre-teen, the only thing I could stomach was a blueberry muffin and bacon. I wonder if stocking her up on a high protein snack before bedtime would help?

4 year olds being invited on "team" NEW to sport, need help please =)

Congrats on your girl's success so far! Sounds like they have a real talent. Like everyone else has said, just take it one day at a time. They are 4....and what they love today, they may hate tomorrow (my DD is 5.5 yrs old.) Follow their lead. The last thing I would add is that they are...

    Am I a bad Mom if I don't...?

I only have little ones (5 and 3) but I have found that when I travel for work or when DH and I go away try to calll in the morning, they are well rested, have a whole day of fun/school, etc to look forward to. If I call at bedtime, it usually results in tears because they are reminded that I'm...

    Visa Championships 2012 LIVE

Very annoyed to find out Comcast is no longer carrying Universal, we had it last year. I was going to DVR it and watch later, hopefully they will have it on-line later.

Parents Typical USAG/competitive team contract length?

I signed a contract when DD started pre-team but it basically said what the monthly fee was, and that it was for a 9 month commitment rather than sessions as the rec program is. But when DD left the pre-team program to back to rec, he prorated the rec session since I had already paid a month of...

Parents DD officially invited to join pre-team...and we're not sure.

Congratulations to your DD! Such an exciting adventure. My only advice, since almost everything has been said, is just take it day by day....my DD was invited to pre-team last summer and after about 5 months we needed to take a step back. She wasn't having fun anymore, she started at 4.5 and...

    Is pre team worth it?

That's how much pre-team cost at our gym, 3 hrs a week for $150 a month. I think it really depends on whether you think she wants to compete some day. If she has interest in that, then yes it is worth it. If she doesn't, there isn't a need to spend the extra money or time.

Is this how most advanced rec programs are? warning:Rant!

The gym my DD goes to basically has obstacle courses for pre-school but once they turn 5 they move to a beginner class or are asked to be on pre-team. 3 and 5 year olds are very different in their ability (I have a 3 and a 5 yr old), so I can imagine it would be difficult to keep them all on...

    Today was Parent Viewing Day

Thanks everyone. She is having fun. Her coach still thinks she belongs on pre-team but we are going to wait until the fall and try again. She won't be 6 until next October so no need to rush her into something while she is having fun.

    rec to pre-team

Hi and welcome to the CB! I would probably talk to the coaches about the skills she would like to learn rather than talking about pre-team or different classes. I know at our gym, pre-team is invite only, and it is only for people who would like to compete someday (or at least have the...
