My son told me there are big changes to the age groups starting next year. Guess we will finally be like the rest of the world and the age group will be as of January 1st. His coach said starting next year, he will compete at the age he is for the season. This apparently means since he will be...
So my DS is getting ready for Nationals. Everything is looking really good. The thorn in his side is this blind change with straight, kept together legs. I'm not looking for coaching advise but how hard is this? He says it's not as easy as it looks and I believe him. He's been working on...
Thanks everyone! Yes, his hands are quite small; now it makes more sense. He hasn't outgrown his grips but he said his coach said he can't compete in elite competitions with those girl grips. Does anyone know anything about that? I don't know how they would know what kind of grips he has.
Yes, my point exactly. Keep in mind my son is 11 and may have his information a little backwards even though he said it over and over. ;) Really just looking to see if any manufacturer is better than another.
Anyone have any recommendations for boys ring grips? My son told me his coach told him that he's been using girl ring grips this whole time (over 2 years). His coach referred us to Turn grips but said we can use any. Also, do any of you have more than one pair for your son?
Jut got our State and Regional Schedule. The only one we will have to travel for is Regionals. I'm still confused about Technical Sequences though. I see the schedule for Friday afternoon for both States and Regionals. Does my son need to do both or once he qualifies for Nationals he's done...
Yes! Sometimes it's better to be in the dark!!! ;) You can drive yourself crazy trying to figure it all out. Best to be left to the coaches and judges.
Thanks so much. I was really confused and it looks like I will be all season! :) So anything above a 6 is going to be good? What's the basis for the change?
Did the scoring change for this season? My son is a level 7 and he keeps telling me his score is not out of 16 anymore. Does he mean the start value? I'm confused.
What? The ortho never told us that. Wish I had an Ortho who understood gymanstics. He didn't even know or understand the events. I like your suggestion. Will talk to the coach tomorrow. Thanks. ;)
Yup, it is Sever's. :) The Orthopedic told him to stop vault and tumbling for one month, to which my son responded, "No WAY! The alternative is the Cheetah heel cup and after practice elevation and ice. It seems to be helping.
Wow, I was just going to post this same issue. My son has been having heel pain for the past few months and its getting worse. His seems to be the sides of his right heel. It bothers him the most when he runs on vault. He is seeing the Orthopedic tomorrow. They have been working hard now that...
Glad to hear your son is on the mend. :) There have been several injuries in our gym as the boys are testing new learned skills. Sometimes the sprains are worse than the breaks. I hope he has a speedy recovery for him as well as you. Yeah, you have lots of free time but with an energetic...
Congrats! He must be very excited. :)
My son unfortunately didn't make it. He fell twice on HB. My heart sank. It's amazing how they get right back up there and finish! I was proud of him.
Yikes  We haven't gotten our meet schedule yet. I think with all the changes and our gym hosting a meet, states and regionals they are a bit late. Did someone say they get paid to travel? Maybe I didn't read that right.
Last year my son for level 6 did 6 meets plus states and...
Wow, sounds like what's going on in our gym as well. Since the boys were all moved around to fit them in the right level according to age, the boys have had to work very hard. Some boys skipped two levels. My son is 10 and was in level 6 last year and is now in level 7. He's working on the...
