Parents Is it bad form to leave a gym during Preteam? Also Xcel Bronze vs. Preteam?

I’d much rather be at a gym that has an inconvenient schedule, 10-15 minutes from my house vs a gym that is up to 50 minutes away. Schedules change all the time so maybe next year things would line up better. Going to gym twice a week is going to add almost 4 hours to your schedule, not to...

WAG First HOPES compulsory meet was today...

According to the COP it isn’t 1.00 unless she actually fell. You can probably figure out by what you saw which deduction she received. A brush or tap where she kept going likely fell into the .500 category vs tapping her feet and actually stopping.

WAG First HOPES compulsory meet was today...

No they are listed separately. Brush is listed as .500, feet hitting mat is .500 and then feet hitting the mat as a fall is 1.00. I would imagine the distinction is along the same lines as the hands touching the mat vs the hands touching the mat and showing support.

Just as an FYI brushing the mat or hitting the mat with your feet is only .500.

    Parents Dare-devil kids

It sounds like she isn’t mature enough to be in this class if she has to be watched every second or she will do something potentially dangerous. Part of advancing is being mature and following directions. Those are probably the most important “skills” at this age.

    WAG Regional scoring variability

My DD has competed in many different states, and regions and I’ve seen no difference beyond the normal variation you get at meets. At some meets you will have a particular event judged very strict and another event being loose with the scoring. It has never mattered where we are, it has all...

WAG Typical Start of Season Scores?

One thing that hasn't been touched on in this thread is that many gyms don't have fluid groups. If you were pegged as a level 6 when they made summer groups, you will remain a 6 even if you take off over the summer and into the fall. That 6 group is preparing for 6 while working skills beyond...

You are not naive. You are right on.

Giants aren't required in level 7. Neither is a bhs bhs.

What level 7 skills did these kids do in warm-up?

Then he/she gets to make those decisions for his/her team!

WAG Typical Start of Season Scores?

Well gymbeam that's just not fair! How dare the coaches look at the big picture and the overall long term development of their athletes! That's against the rules and just not right.

WAG Typical Start of Season Scores?

I'm so glad USAG appointed you and other parents in charge of deciding when they have reached that level of proficiency.....Oh wait! I'm pretty sure they leave that up to coaches to decide within the context of their programs.

WAG Typical Start of Season Scores?

SMH Yes I'm aware of that. The point being why should people be so concerned if a gymnast is choosing to do more. More risk, potentially more deductions, etc.

WAG Typical Start of Season Scores?

This is your opinion. Clearly it's not USAG's opinion or they would have put more difficulty restrictions on level 6 as they have with the levels above that. Gyms are choosing to use levels the way it works for their program. Just as you think these girls shouldn't be doing level 6, some...

WAG Why Does Shawn Johnson Lie So Much In Her Speeches?

Doesn't it actually say Shawn would never be in a picture with them? You could easily interpret that as saying Shawn was stuck up and not that they were mean or jealous of her. I have zero interest in Shawn so not defending her, but I didn't read that the same way. I read it more as she thinks...

WAG Typical Start of Season Scores?

Or maybe it's a coach who believes in using all the levels. Maybe a coach who understands that once they get to level 8 things will get scarier and harder on the body so why not take a slower approach? Doing 7 means you should be trying to do 8 next year. It gives kids more years to enjoy lower...

WAG Typical Start of Season Scores?

EXACTLY. I'm not sure why some feel they need to make all these rules or judge the decisions gyms make. One season compulsory or optional. Simple solution. Simple solution for what?

WAG Typical Start of Season Scores?

LOL I'm not taking it personally. Don't come make statements that it's not possible when it is. Or any of the other statements that kids who score high should not be in that level. The playing field should be even, they should learn to lose, etc. I find it interesting that you always preach...
