WAG Hand + feet placement on beam

It is almost necessary to put your feet one behind the other at least slightly on back tucks and round offs. Otherwise it will be very easy for you to split the beam. They don't need to be completely one behind the other, but you big toe could be in line with the middle of your other foot. Some...

    WAG competing with a cast

I did it a few years ago with a cast on my wrist. Just floor and beam.. Modified so that I only had round off with one arm into saltos and front tumbling. I think the hardest tumble I did was a 2 1/2 twist backwards. Beam was pretty easy to modify, apart from the bit where you have to go down to...

    WAG Skiing and Gymnastics

I think it works well. I found that racing is easy (or relativley easy) because of the fitness and agility that a lot of skiers lack- at least compared to gymnasts.

WAG What are the strongest grips?

I'm looking to get a new pair, and I usually go for reisport. However, they tend to not last me very long- usually about 4 months, which is a bit annoying because I have to keep wasting time working new ones in. I know reisport does double leather ones, but I'm not sure I want to risk buying...

WAG Ankle, sprained broken or nothing?

Because you said it doesn't hurt at all sometimes and hasn't swelled it might something in the wrong place. Like I have something in my ankle that occasionally makes it so painful to even walk that I can and then if I move it it clicks a couple times and goes. Apparently it's a bone fragment but...

WAG What percent of Level 4's stay with the sport until graduation?

I think my level 4 team had about 25-30 girls and that was around 2006 or 07. With a couple years till graduation, only 2 of the girls are still doing gym :( Most of them quit around the time when they reached the beginnings of optionals or high school.

WAG Chinese tap for front giants

I think they mean a drive with the heels not shoulders. Normally you front giant by *pulling your shoulders* over the bar, and then your heels. A Chinese tap involves keeping shoulders open the whole time and leading with the heels.

    WAG Catastrophically bad meet.

To cry, and she is a professional elite! I think your daughter will learn to handle these situations. When she has a couple more dozen meets under her belt she will be able to make a mistake and simply forget about it.

    WAG Catastrophically bad meet.

It's really hard to not do well when everyone was counting on you to. I had a meet where I was in 1st place by a few point through the first three rotations. Last rotation was bars and I went and fell 3 times, and 2 of the skills I fell on didn't even count. I ended up with a 6.Something (FIG...

    WAG Normal wear-n-tear on grips

Mine are like that too. 1 is very thin and about an inch longer than the other(think it's time to get new ones ;) ). I've never had a pair that had 2 grips that looked the same... So I think it's normal, but once they look completely different it is time for a new pair.

    WAG Healthy food suggestions

I'm looking for suggestions for some good snacks/small meals that are healthy, high in protein(not all have to be), and also vegetarian. There's a lot of posts about snacks during gym, but not much on food during the day. I tend to get hungry a lot, and it seems to be hard to find healthy food...

WAG Beginning of the end or just a phase?

I remember when we had to condition with the optionals, and me and my friend would say we would never do level X because we could never even think of doing BHS on beam or giants(we were 8)- exactly what MaryA said. She ended up quitting a year later, and I'm still training. I guess it depends on...

WAG How to tell your coach you're leaving?

In a utopian world.. The kids should really be the energy behind the changes, I mean it's affecting them really. I agree that the coaches won't listen to people who are younger, but if you say something enough times it might get into their head. But since they want to leave on good terms and be...
