    WAG Dance/jump series for 6/7 &/Gold

So interesting as this exact thing JUST happened to my DD yesterday at her meet. She had an assemble in her leap series (L7) and they changed her start value to a 9.5! She has competed this routine a dozen times and it has always had a 10.0 start value. Her coach (who is also a certified...

WAG Is this the norm for training in the TOPs, Hopes & Elite Community???

In that case I reiterate my point. The word elite should not be part of the conversation yet. She isn't even an optional. If there is a coach talking about elite track, run the other way...I would not trust that coach. But I absolutely DO wish the gymnast success! Good luck!

WAG How far is your gym?

Following. Our current gym is 5 minutes away by car. It's a joy. It's only 3 miles and I run there in the summer and then my daughter and I run home together after practice. BUT...at some point we need to move. I've been putting it off. Likely should have moved a year ago, if not longer...

WAG Grips Question for L7/Training 8

I definitely agree. I know that bars is the gatekeeper. And I know that it is essentially different than the other 3 events. Part of her issue is *may* be strength/conditioning related, I am certainly willing to admit that. But she seems to do her conditioning well, with good form, and...

WAG Front Tuck Dismount on the side of the beam vs Gainor

My daughter did a gainer dismount off beam as an L6 last year and it always scored great. She was literally the only one we saw do it in every meet of the season and all of the people watching always thought it looked so cool and unique. BUT...if you do not know how to teach it, DO NOT WORK...

WAG Grips Question for L7/Training 8

My 11 year old is currently a L7 but may move to L8 mid-season. The reason for "maybe" moving up is bars! She is scoring great on all other events and has her skills for 8 solid. Here's the issue. She doesn't use grips. She is TINY. Much smaller than the average 11 year old. (She's 4'4"...

WAG Is this the norm for training in the TOPs, Hopes & Elite Community???

I don't intend for this to be rude. I promise--I know how hard it is to interpret tone when online. But I honestly think that the OP must be confused to some degree. Maybe the coach used the wrong words or mislead her? Her gymnast is a Level 6 (I am guessing based on all of the comments)...

WAG Changing Level questions and frustruations

Moving up is not about mastering the L4 skills or getting 36s as a L4. It is about whether or not she has the L5 skills yet. Our gym doesn't move up until they have all of the skills for that level (or are super close to getting the last one or two).

WAG Worried about summer training schedule

My daughter, age 10 new level 7, will be in the gym 22 hours per week. 16 of those are training. The other 6 hours are as a "Coach-in-Training" for the pre-school rec class, which she is SO excited about! The reason is a split schedule. She will train from 8-11am, and then her second...

WAG One on One Meetings with Coaches

Yup, we do it twice per year. We look at it just like at school with parent-teacher conferences. And that makes sense, given the amount of time they spend at the gym! It almost rivals the amount of hours at school! lol We do this for all girls on the competitive team, though, not just the...

WAG How long did it take you or your DD to get from rec to the pre team?

As you can see, there are as many answers here as there are girls. :) In our gym and at States, pre-team is L2 and they compete at L3 (old L3). My daughter did zero rec and literally walked on to the L3 team. She never took a class. But the head coach saw her on the playground and asked me...

WAG Is it normal for lvl 3s to be learning front tucks?

In our gym the L3s and 4s work on front tucks.

    WAG Running, Gymnastics and more

My gymnast runs as well (I'm a marathoner and triathlete, so she sees what I do). She just turned 10 and is a L7, but she's been doing 5ks since age 6 or 7. Before she started gymnastics. She also plays on a competitive travel soccer team. Some kids are just natural athletes and can handle a...

Parents What is your current level 6 doing next year with the changes?

I'm in the same place. My daughter skipped 5 and competed 6 this year. As a 2-time State Champion, she did NOT have that same level of success as a 6 who skipped 5. Like you said, she got all of her skills and did ok. But certainly nothing Earth-shaking. That being said, her coaches are...

Parents Can't a girl catch a break?? (Long)

We don't love the cheetah cups. We use regular gel heel cups (from any shoe or sportshoe store) for regular wear. And x-brace as well. Amazon.com: The X Brace, Arch Support Brace for Barefoot Athletes (XL): Health & Personal Care

    Parents Ages on Team

Good question...I have been wondering about this too...what is the average age per level? My daughter is 10 and an (old) Level 7. But she is the youngest 7 in the gym. The next youngest is 12. Our (old) Level 3s range from 5-10. 4s 6-12. 5s 9-12. 6s 10-12. 7s 10-up.

    Parents Just venting

I disagree. Definitely do NOT bring it up to HC. Sure, he should be there with positive reinforcement and encouragement when a kiddo gets a new skill. But seriously, in the grand scheme of things, this is really minor. If you run to him with this, you run the risk of being *that* parent...

Parents Negative talking at the gym

Wow, I totally could have written this post. This is exactly what happened to me when I was having a conversation with 2 other moms. We weren't even talking about gymnastics! But a parent overheard a snippet of our conversation, took it completely out of context, and went running to the...

    WAG Hair Ribbon deduction...?!?!

Like I said, I assumed that I would be in the minority when it comes to this topic. lol :) As long as it isn't FORCED, to each her own, I say. That and as long as there are no deductions (or favoritism on the other end of the spectrum) from the judges for wearing/not wearing ribbons or...

WAG directors:? grouping teams in meets?

Thank you for the clarification. I thought that it must be something like that. As I said in my post about this, had the meet already been underway, I certainly would not have walked over to the team...and if I had walked over there, I would not have been surprised about the reprimand. But...
