    Coaches Teaching uncommon skills.

I've taught the full twist into kip before. We just spend a lot of time working quarter jump into kip, half jump into kip, and three quarter jump into kip before they start trying it. I also teach it on a smaller bar than they compete on so they get more used to getting their legs up.

    Coaches Level 6 bars

I find level 6 easier than level 5 as well, so my gym is skipping level 6 and girls are going to go straight from level 5 to level 7. The cast has to hit horizontal for no deduction, but has to get above horizontal for the element group requirement. So a gymnast casts right above horizontal...

Coaches Clear hip from the beginning

One of our busy stations is a bar where they just hang in an inverted candlestick position with hips just barely touching the bar and for them to bounce. They do it 10x before moving onto the next station. I like it because I think it teaches the drop position decently well, and several of my...

    Coaches Routine Cost

I wouldn't charge for a group routine. Our level 3s get one standardized routine and it's free to learn. Once they get their personal routine, that's when we charge.

Coaches Update! And a couple more questions?

Hey everyone Last thread I posted here was back in August, about my level 4 girls not having a kip (at the beginning of the month, nobody really had a kip). I'm proud to say that 3/4 girls make 100% of their kips now, and the fourth girl makes about 1/2! Thank you everyone who helped me out...

    Coaches Kips! (And kip trainers)

Update on the kips, another girl got hers on Monday, so 3/5 have kips now! We had a station set up that was a stack of blocks to our single rail, so it would be like high bar kips and they tried those on their own and that's how she got hers.

WAG The Level 4/5 Judging Exam

How is this? I'm debating on taking it during labor day at GAT since my work is already sending me and they said they'll pay for my testing too. What is the best way to get prepared for it and what should I expect?

    Coaches Kips! (And kip trainers)

I did find out today that only two out of my five level 4s are going to this first meet, and one is one with the kip. I don't like how we are going to have a small showing but it gives me more time because our next meet isn't until Sept 28.

    Coaches Kips! (And kip trainers)

Scratching them on bars is not an option for us. Update from yesterday - we've still done nothing but kips with our girls struggling with them. The one who got it on Thursday did hers a lot yesterday. The drill station we did was the one where the crouch under the bar and jump with straight...

    Coaches Kips! (And kip trainers)

Update after todays practice, I didn't do the kip trainer today. All I coached today was kips, I'd spot every other one and we'd do five total for about five cycles on bars today. They also did their normal bounce hs and floor bar drills, and then I made the "butt bombs" station to much...

    Coaches Kips! (And kip trainers)

Hey all, I have a really talented young new level 4 team and we're still struggling on kips. Out of my team of five, three have their kip inconsistently, and two haven't gotten it at all. When the three who have it inconsistently do it, they do a super bent arm, muscle up version. I have one...

WAG 2 Tumbling Passes at Level 9

Two pass routines are pretty common here in level 8 and 9.

    Coaches back salto head position

My favorite drill is just having them do the three bounces off a mini-tramp and stack of blocks and back flip into the pit. It's very easy IMO to focus on whatever issue the gymnast is having. We use this for our higher level 3s and all our level 4s, so they can use it in spring optionals and...

    WAG Learning New Routines

I haven't started teaching beam yet. I've been focusing on floor - making sure everything in the routine is spot on before moving on. My faster learners have the whole floor and I'm just fine tuning it, while my younger gymnasts/slower learners are about half way through.

MAG Level 10 floor requirements and standards?

When you added it up, you didn't include the composition requirements. You get 0.5 for having each of the back, front, side, non acro, and dismount element groups, so it'll be 2.3 + 2.5 for a 4.8 difficulty or 14.80 start value. The front full punch front would not get bonus. I believe in...

MAG Level 10 floor requirements and standards?

Level 10 is just a step under NCAA/Elite. Instead of having to dismount with a D, they dismount with a C. Some skills are banned (rollout skills on floor for example). The "basic" level 10 routine is typically D skill, double flipping (full-in, double front, arabian double) D twisting skill...

Coaches grouping my students (where to put the new 6s)

Our gym groups kids as this, Old 1 & 2 - New 1 Old 3 & 4 - New 2&3 Old 5 & 6 - New 4&5 Optionals - New 6+ We like it this way, because the first group (new lv 1) is used just with all our beginners, and basics. Group 2 (lv 2&3) are our preteam, and they continue on with basics and start dance...

Coaches Back handsprings - heavy trampoline training or not?

We do a LOT of back handsprings on the trampoline. I have found it to be the easiest place to perfect the skill before trying it on the ground. After trampoline, we take it to the tumble track (just because it's really hard and is a good step between the soft trampoline and the ground). Once...

    WAG New compulsory music

I have heard the one on the DVD for every level so far. Bad, but not as bad as some of old music from last cycle. Excited to hear all the options this coming weekend!
