    Provincials

We don't use the argo, tyro etc levels anymore here, they are split up much more evenly. However, only level 6+ goes to provincials, so we don't have the issue of huge level 3/4 groups trying to qualify. Level 5 went last year, but I don't think we even had 40 level 5s in the whole province.

    Provincials

Man, I like this system way better. We've always had the same system in Alberta, before JO anyway, and far too often I've seen kids miss out because they've made an uncharacteristic mistake at zones. Or have the meet of their life, scoring over a 36, but then every other kid had the meet of...

    WAG Stacking teams

I don't have a problem with mandatory move up scores, but I do have a kid killing it in level 3 (there are no placements in level 3 here, they just get ribbons and scores, but she is getting 9.5 on every event at every meet), she trains with a group of level 4/5s but cannot for the life of her...

    Provincials

I'm just curious how other provinces do provincials, since I saw most (?) states have compulsory states as well. In Alberta levels 6-7 must qualify at zones (northerns and southerns). The top 65% qualify, regardless of score. We had level 5s qualify last year, but only optionals this year...

    WAG Best side aerial drills?

I keep getting calls to do private lessons with dancers who have a side aerial choreographed into their solos, yet can't do it yet. I always feel a ton of pressure with these privates. So, what are your favourite side aerial drills? I usually teach them to my gymnasts slowly, over time. However...

WAG Wow haha blowing your minds

We took our kids out of province a few weekends ago, and they all scored at least 2 points higher AA, with routines that honestly weren't really any better. 1 kid scoring between 6.8-7.4 on vault all year, scored a 9.3! And no, there was no miracle overnight, watching the vault, I didn't even...

    Coaches Kip tips please!

I have a kid who has made a few kips in straps here and there, but isn't very consistent. She has a good pull and can get herself up when I spot only her legs, but rarely makes it if I only spot her back. She'll bring her toes to the bar, but won't hold them in. She is great at bar holds and leg...

WAG Food for judges at meets

In my coaching career, I've never been in a separate room from the judges. I understand the reasoning why they are supposed to be separate, but my roommate and sisters, as well as other coaches from our gym are judges so there's that. Always have pop and coffee, meet days/weekends are long and...

    So sad for Canada

Devastating. On a better day they could've gone all the way and been in a fight for bronze. Too many mistakes.

    Ellie Downie injured on floor

Thankfully a minor injury, but so sad for her and team GB. Would've liked to see her in vault and floor finals. In other news, what is with GB's hair ?!

Opening Ceremonies...am I the only one?

LOVED the commentary on CBC, lots of gymnastics comments ;) and great interviews with the athletes (the South Sudan athlete made me tear up- he was just so gracious!)

Simone, Aly and Gabby officially competing for AA

USA gymnastics officially announce this morning that Aly and Gabby (and Simone of course!) will be competing to qualify to AA finals. I can't say I'm happy, but also not surprised... I've been on team Laurie for months now. Anyway hope Aly gets her shot at redemption and Laurie sticks around for...

2016 Women's Artistic Gymnastics Olympic Team!

I'm disappointed that Gabby is on the team. I don't think she earned it and I think a lot more than her gymnastics went into that decision. I was holding out hope for Ragan until the very end, especially with Gabby's second fall of the meet, but deep down I knew they'd pick Gabby. If they...

WAG Avulsion fracture in an eight year old :( Does anyone have experience with this?

I'm afraid I don't have anything good to say. I got an avulsion fracture coaching last year, and was put in a boot for 6 weeks, a brace for another 4. I still had a lot of problems with it and ended up getting several steroid shots, an MRI and a bone scan that showed lots a ligament damage, my...

    Coaches Recording meet scores

Does anyone know of any sort of Xcel spreadsheet or other kind of template used to keep track of scores over the season? I've made my own in the past, but it just seems to take me forever to enter in the scores, and there must be something quicker! (I'm not so great with xcel )

    Username change

Sorry, tried to post on the thread dedicated to this, but it wouldn't let me (insufficient privileges). Anyway I heard a rumour some parents are on here, and they don't really be need to be reading my posts, so if possible can I change my username to CanGymCoach? Thanks!

    Coaches Kips kips kips!!

They have the rest of the routine, minus the kips. Unfortunately, going level 3, while a possibility, won't be easy. Levels 1-3 is governed by rec and technically not considered competitive, so there won't be many opportunities for them to complete unless they are JO 4 (they will be able to...

    Coaches Kips kips kips!!

Okay, I need everyone's secrets for kips! Switching to the JO system this year, has left everyone behind on bars, and half my group can't kip... They have less than a month to learn this (some can do them in straps), otherwise they're going to JO3, which I think we'll be even harder because...
