WAG Old VHS tapes -- anyone want them?

I just saw on Gymcastic that you found a taker for these! I’m so pleased. Thanks for finding a home for them, and fingers crossed that we’ll see some of that Aus-gym history on YouTube some time in the future!

WAG Old VHS tapes -- anyone want them?

Oh it would be a shame to throw them out! There is so much Australian gymnastic history that didn't make it online. I feel like someone would want them but I don't know who. I'd take them but I can't play VHS either anymore. What era are they from?

Parents Bringing gym bag through TSA

We’ve never had any trouble with chalk and grips, but rolls of strapping tape seem to get the bags opened after the x-ray every time. No idea why. It’s fine though - a quick bag check and we are on our way again.

    Parents Um, is anyone else...

Ohhhh, poor kid! That taping looks like it'll keep them safe and clean. Hope they heal quickly. I've had to send my teenager to school before, more than once, with two bandaged wrists (from bad strap bar abrasions)! I'm slightly surprised there hasn't been a guidance counsellor referral...

Reisport Women's Uneven Bar Grips (Hook & Loop)

They're the grips of choice in my daughter's gym (Although some girls use the reisport double buckle). They seem to last and last - even the velcro. My daughter has recently been using her second pair for about six months now, and her first was bought at the start of 2018.

WAG COMEBACK - Ep. 1 // The Becky Downie Documentary

I am a big fan of Becky Downie, so I have been looking forward to these, and I hope more are made. The first episode seems to mostly be introductory fluff- a bit of background, a bit of scene setting. The second episode went deeper and was genuinely emotional. She is amazingly focussed and...

Parents What is your threshold for driving vs. flying to a meet?

Our meet that requires the most travel is about 9 solid hours of driving away (so 10 hours if you stop for lunch, fuel etc). Sometimes we fly, sometimes we drive. We have a hybrid car, so certainly from an environmental perspective, the drive is better. We drove this year and I think I...

WAG NSW - National and State Stream

I don’t actually know? Suspect it varies from region to region and invitational to invitational. I have been to regionals where the state girls competed with the group and were separated during presentation. And invitationals where there was no state stream. And invitationals with divisions...

WAG NSW - National and State Stream

Yeah some individual competitions band and rank girls in levels three and four (this is relatively new - back when my daughter did those levels they never gave out places) and some just award bands but not places. At the regional competition level it just depends how the region decides to run...

WAG NSW - National and State Stream

Hi, I am not an expert in this - just a gym parent, but there definitely were state stream competitions this year. I know it was a thing that existed many years ago, and was for kids who didn't want to do full competitive hours. And then it sort of disappeared when they rolled out the current...

    ChalkBucket New Site Theme!

I really like it - it's so clean and crisp looking.

Coaches Tuition for your own child

My daughter's gym offers a five percent discount for kids of coaching staff, and I think that's really weak (I am not staff so have no skin in the game here). We're a community gym (registered nonprofit) and to coach team requires fairly family unfriendly hours. Generally by the time coaches...

Parents Understanding E and ND scores

Are they just showing E for those girls to differentiate it from the ND? Some NDs are huge (here in Australia, at least, don't know about the USA's rules) so if I were a coach and my kid's score was a full point lower than I was expecting, it'd be good to see what came off their execution vs...

    Off Topic Halloween

Stays open, encourages kids to dress up safely for training. Some years they do trick-for-treat where the kids play training games to win lollies. It wasn’t a training day for my daughter so I don’t know what numbers were like this year. It is the middle of school exam season here, so...

    Parents Competing in shorts

My kid competed in shorts at state championships (Australia) last weekend. She knows her coach would have preferred her not to, but she knew that on that particular day she’d definitely compete more confidently with shorts on so she simply didn’t take them off. Nothing was said, she scored...

WAG 2023 Core Hydration Classic Senior Women

Yes, USAG’s YouTube, but I think it was geoblocked in the USA. It really was a good feed. I think I saw the YDP before most of the USA because I was online going OMG THAT WAS SO GOOD, but social media didn’t explode for another few minutes. And yeah, they followed no gymnasts and showed...

WAG 2023 Core Hydration Classic Senior Women

Watching from Australia, where it is mid Sunday morning. The international feed for this is great - all routines, no fluff, replays when they can be squeezed in, and no commentary. The only problem is no scores, but that is easily solved with a second screen.

Parents No score out for level 5?

There were a couple of years after the switch to the current Australian levels program where there was one set level six floor choreography, but clubs also had the option of using their own. It lasted a couple of years, and some clubs ran with their own choreography, but my observation was that...

    Parents Olivia Dunne

Concussions (plural) should definitely be a red flag. Gymnastics has its more common injuries and ailments - sprained ankles, Osgood schlatter, pulled hamstrings etc. But concussion shouldn't be one of them! Concussion is more serious than many people are aware of, and concussion damage is...

    Off Topic Reusing routines?

Yeah handed down routines are the norm at our gym. Why waste a good bit of choreography! I don’t know about special bond, but it lovely seeing an older gymnast/young coach passing the torch by teaching the routine to a younger gymnast.
