FWI… If anyone has ever looked into the specifical requirements for hosting a meet, the musical (background) requirements tend to be centered on entertaining the age-group of the parents (NOT the gymnasts). This is usually specific to 80’s/90’s hit/pop musical selections.
I’m a huge fan of tailoring meals to appetite. I don’t push food if my kids aren’t hungry, but I always have a healthy option if they are. I’ll usually give my kids a good meal prior to a work-out, but if they aren’t hungry after, I won’t push food. We also have friends that always bring a...
We are on an almost identical situation as the above poster. We’d been sending our young son to 20+ hours of practice a week. There was way too much sitting/waiting/no structure… parents were complaining, across the board, that better practices could easily be accomplished in half the time...
My young son (7-10) was at a gym where he was doing 20 hrs/week. The coach left, without a replacement, and we changed to a gym that only allowed 12 hrs/wk max. The new gym had more stations, was very organized, had the kids much more responsible for their own conditioning and practice results...
Has anyone else seen Donnell vault live? He is beyond amazing! The power in his vaults, the travel, the slippage of the mats... he really is incredible.
Does anyone know where Puerto Rico falls in the MAG regions? PR is not a state, but residents are US citizens. I'd assumed it would be with FL, but wasn't on the most recent updated men's regional breakdown map. Our coaches don't know either! I haven't found any PR gymnasts competing at...
Definitely not for compulsory men's levels... Possibly for optionals, but still, likely not.
It's advantageous not to have to time your skills to your music, or worry about deductions if the routine doesn't end timed to the musical conclusion. And now we'll need hired choreographers to match...
Too bad.... I definitely appreciated the added anonymity the private group provided, as well as the ability to show videos and post real names or meet-up info for competitions.
”Our family recently saw a boys' meet for the first time, and OH MY GOODNESS was it different from a girls' meet! Everyone, including the judges, was friendly and relaxed.”
*yes- the overall atmosphere is much different!
”Nobody was timing falls or routines.”
*Falls are always timed, but by...
I’ve had great experiences with FS and the parents. It’s a good chance to connect with parents that you wouldn’t normally hang out with, mainly since many kids are there alone or in small groups. It's not like the normal big team gang of parents all sequestered together.
My dd had massive overnight growth & couldn’t do anything backwards to save her life. She was moved fro JO 5 to Xcel gold, competing FX with only front tumbling & a dive roll. Somehow managed to take 1st place several times with those skills.
* Men’s gymnastics is about longevity. Girls peak in this sport much earlier. It’s important for girls to get the harder skills before puberty hits. Boys are waiting for puberty, which totally changes the sport for them. There are many skills in the Code of Points that junior men are...
To the best of my knowledge, it’s very easy to change one’s gym affiliation for any meet, even if you’re already registered with a different gym. It’s simply up to the new gym and the coach’s philosophy, and if they’re willing to take a newly acquired child to an upcoming meet. This seems to...
