My DD had her first major bout of Severs when she was 8, and it lasted around 3 months. She was booted for a week in the middle, which helped significantly for a week or so after, and then the pain returned. Over the past two years she's had 5 flares that last anywhere from 2-6 weeks. She hasn't...
DD's gym pushes them all to have the layout flyaway for level 5. DD got hers quickly (if only she had the same luck with the beam back walkover that is still hit or miss ). There were a few girls who just weren't getting it, so they are doing tucks for comps while still working the...
I’m wondering, given the allegations surrounding the atmosphere in the gym, if the contract would even hold up? It’s one thing to leave because you simply don’t want to be there anymore, but if there is verbal and/or physical abuse going on, I think you’d be hard pressed to find a judge who...
I don't know anything at all about MAG, but when Epke missed his left hand and kept on going one-handed, the crowd went crazy! I was on the fence about getting tickets for today's finals, but I am SO glad we did. My dd's favorite event of the week was men's HB.
By "stick it out" I mean kids that started in rec there and are now unhappy by level 3/4, kinda don't love it, but parents are pushing because they think their kids will only succeed there. Some of them left last year, some have quit altogether, and a few others I know are still there, depending...
We've gotten quite a few girls from there over the last two years, and the gym has already gotten a few calls. The compulsory levels in particular have had some coaching turnover, so that may have more to do with it than Mihai leaving, but I do know some people who thought that their daughters...
Level assignments go out in June (summer schedule starts in July, meet season starts in December). The contract goes out in August, at which time we will know school year schedule, meet weekends, and all fees (other than meet fees). I believe that it is due along with team dues by the end of August.
i just saw that he has been confirmed to coach Australia's national team. I'm guessing that the gym won't stay open for long, but did he comment either way on the status of the gym?
@e'smum I totally know who the redhead is! I remember going to a big meet last year and she was judging bars. One of the moms on DD's L3 team has an upper level optional as well, and she warned us to expect tough scoring on bars! She was very fair, though.
DD has decreased shoulder flexibility, but has worked a lot to improve it. She never hinged at a specific point in the lower back, but would compensate with bent arms and bent knees. This article may be helpful in determining whether or not she has a problem with hinging on the lower back. It...
DD (8yo) just finished Simone's book, and is now into Laurie Hernandez's book. She has really enjoyed them. She has a subscription to Inside Gymnastics, which she also enjoys, though it looks to me like a ton of adds and very few stories.
Misread your original post. I know a ton of people who have left team at your current gym, some are at DD's gym now or have quit completely. There has been a lot of coach changeover at the lower levels in the past two years.
I know this quote and this gym, though they do compete starting at level 1 (or at least they have as recently as last year). You must live close to me! My DD is 8 and she has girls from 6-12 years old on her team. Most of the girls start pretty young, but the gym seems to be open to taking older...
DD (also repeating L3), has a perfect straight-armed kip according to coaches, including HC. They have even shown her kip to levels 4-6 as an example before, so she knows the kip is fine. She has competed it a few times, but her bar score ends up a little bit lower each time. The kip itself is...
My just turned 8yo DD is going through the same thing! She has an appointment next week with a specialist, but the pediatrician thought it seemed like Sever's. She had a huge growth spurt over the summer and her feet got huge, so it makes sense. Good luck to everyone else dealing with this!
