I feel you. Without going into a long drawn out story, we eventually decided we had hit our limit with what gymnastics was taking from us as a family during the pandemic. It was a heart-wrenching decision for all of us, but a few months out now, I still believe it was the right thing to do. The...
Hey all. I've been MIA for a bit. There has been so much in the air with gym and COVID and it's been hard to read stories here of kiddos going back and it was just easier to take a break.
I may be sacrificing anonymity posting this, but I could use some support. Dd's gym is closing. It is 100%...
This is incredible. Congratulations on making the leap to achieve greatness! It's scary, and so much is unknown (2020 amiright?!) but you'll never accomplish if you don't try. Keep us posted!
The thing I have to keep telling myself is that my kids have never experienced what a senior year "should" be like. I have, and my husband has. But this experience that is fully theirs hasn't occurred yet. So we are working hard to not project feelings of loss or grief over changes. Will it look...
I think it's important to remember that not every place is in the same "place" if you will with the virus. Our community is not doing well, at all. We are in the top 5 of cases per capita and our rate is growing, not declining or flat lining. I do not feel comfortable going out, even with masks...
@Onthebeam I'm so sorry that your dd's gym was so rigid about this. That doesn't seem fair, given the fluidity of this whole thing. I'm sorry it worked out that way for you and I wish your dd all the best!
I don't know specifically about LA gyms, but this is an issue that so many gyms are facing. They are technically included in later phases, but don't really meet the requirements for "team sports" or gyms which really means public work out gyms. I know in our state several gymnastics gyms worked...
@Tigtimes I am so terribly sorry. I am afraid our gym may suffer the same fate. They are desperate right now. They are training team girls who are willing to come and pay, but cannot open to rec yet and honestly I think it will be a very long time before they will be able to. And we all know a...
Sadly, we are too. :( Our gym is open for team despite not officially being approved to open. I had to say no. I understand they are in a terrible situation after being closed for 3 months. I wish there were other options. I wish this wasn't happening at all.
Yep, we are expecting practice to begin next week. Feels weird in a way, it's been SO long of us doing NOTHING. This will be the first thing we phase back in.
I was just reading through the guidelines that USAG has put out for member clubs as they prepare to reopen and realized that this forum's namesake, Chalkbucket, may be a thing of the past, as each gymnast is now encouraged to have their own chalk.
I don't know why, but it kind of made me sad...
I teared up reading your list. It seems like you have a very healthy outlook on this. It's ok to mourn AND look to the bright side. I'm so sorry that you've been dealt this hand. It does suck. Good will prevail however. I have to believe that. ((hugs))
