I had this issue with Dani when she was about 12 as well. She tries to do some homework at school (sometimes the teachers give them a few minutes at the end of class to get a head start on homework) or she brings her homework to dance and does some during breaks. Is there any time after school...
Thanks everyone! She is coming along nicely :). Since she is a "lefty" in dance and with her cartwheels and roundoffs, but right-handed with writing, she has found that she has to learn both ways because in dance they turn and do most skills on the right. So that is the biggest challenge with...
Hi guys! I haven't been here in a while so I thought I'd drop in and say hi!! Dani has been very busy with dance team this winter. She is LOVING dance team and is really growing as a dancer. She is competing in 2 contemporary/lyrical dances, 1 jazz production dance and her contemporary/pointe...
I totally agree with the others--you need to be really careful at open gyms. On of my DD's teammates (who is a very experienced Level 6/7) was just doing tap swings at a practice where she peeled and landed on her neck. She was fine (just sore) but was out of gym for a couple weeks.
I know the...
WOW! Sophia looks great!!! You would never guess that she had such a serious injury that required her to be out for 3 months. I guess all that summer swimming, camping and hanging with cousins was the perfect thing for her recovery!! Sometimes taking a break is the best medicine. Best of luck to...
Schools have been cancelled here in Md for today and tomorrow. Very windy and rainy ALL day today and last night. We still have power as of now, but the storm has not reached land yet. They say it will hit very soon.
Anyone remember these Susie videos from a while back???

Wow! I didn't realize that there was such a difference in the physical appearance of Level 4's and Level 5's! My dd was often mistaken for a Level C when she was only a Level B so I totally get what you are saying!
Nicci--believe me she still has trouble getting rid of all the old gymnastics habits that interfere with ballet! Her biggest problem is keeping her ribs closed and taming that big arched back. So, hang in there and keep practicing!!!!
You are sooo right madigym00!!! I rarely get nervous watching her dance but during gymnastics meets I was a nervous wreck for her!!! I feel like dance is way more soothing and gymnastics is just anxiety provoking (at least for me)!!!
Hi All! It's been a while since I last posted. I wanted to give you all an update since the summer. Dani has been very busy with Dance Team and Nutcracker (rehearsals just started last weekend). Dani is very excited for this upcoming dance season--it will be her first and she gets to do a...
Yes. I can say from experience that ballet had helped my daughter tremendously when she was in gymnastics. She started gymnastics rather late at the age of 9, so getting her into ballet helped "jump start" her a bit. As she stayed with the ballet I could see a major difference (and so could the...
Someone needs to tell Bela that this is not the "Jordyn Show". She is a very talented gymnast but Aly and Gabby just had better showings on that day. Period. Aly and Gabby both have upgraded their routines and they HIT (except for Gabby's OOB on floor). We all know that in gymnastics ANYTHING...
And it never fails that when they are on beam and Tim and Elfy are commentating on how "flawless and solid" the routine is, the gymnast will bobble or fall :sigh:. It's like by them just opening their mouths with their useless babbling, they are jinxing the gymnasts. And when Maroney took that...
And another bit of advice--explain to her that as she progresses through the levels, some skills become exponentially harder. My dd breezed through Level 4 with 9's and thought that Level 5 would be just as easy. But it wasn't. That is just an example of how they can get caught up in the "roll...
Also be aware that the learning curve as the levels get higher is much bigger. Didn't she compete Level 5 last season? So, if she is training Level 7 now, she theoretically has to learn level 6 & level 7 skills--a lot for any gymnast. Have her set smaller goals for herself each practice, like...
