    Parents Alternatives to JO?

Our gym (in California) provides reduced tuition based on need. You may want to ask about that?

Parents What do You Wish You had Known?

I think one takeaway here is to enjoy as much as you can watching your kid compete, but be aware gymnastics requires great sacrifice at the higher levels. Therefore, let your child be the guide. If it's their passion and they are dedicated athletes, the sacrifices are easier for the family to...

Parents What do You Wish You had Known?

If you are getting the idea that you should run while you still have a chance, that's something to think about. People have posted their honest experiences, many from the opposite end of the journey to you and after many years of gymnastics. Hearing the "negative" things, will you be willing to...

Parents What do You Wish You had Known?

I wish I had known how completely gymnastics would affect our lives. Disclosure: 2 level 10s, 13 years in the sport. Done with club now. Limited social life: They missed sleepovers, birthday parties and playdates due to practice. Later, missed football games and school dances. No hanging out...

WAG What does "Allowed to walk-on" actually mean?

I would interpret "allowed to walk-on" as being on the team (without funding). Not trying out.

    Social Group Re-creation

Hi, and thanks for all your work. I can re-invite everyone to the NCAA Parents group - it's a small new group, so there's not much there yet. I realize it might not be high priority since it's not a big group yet, but maybe that means it will be easy to move over? Whatever works for you.

WAG Inform college coach about scratching meets

If it was a casual request, like "send us some video updates through your season", I'd send the highlights/good routines (Also, I'd put these on the YouTube or whatever recruiting channel you use). If they are more actively recruiting, they may request all the videos, in which case don't censor...

    Time to say goodbye Bogwoppit

Thank you for your years of service to this community! Also it was a pleasure to actually meet you years ago at Trials. Happy Trails!!

Parents If you knew then what you know now....

Absolutely my experience is specific to our family; both children chose the same sport and both did well. We live only 4 minutes from our gym. We found schools that accommodated the gym schedule. We are at a gym that does a great job helping with college recruiting. Obviously every family will...

Parents If you knew then what you know now....

Yes, I'd do it over again. I have two strong, independent, badass daughters, and I'm very proud of them. We are entering the last JO season for my youngest, and have NCAA after that for both. It's a hard question to answer, since gymnastics has formed my daughters' and our family's experience...

    Parents Talent v. Expense

Check if your gym offers scholarships or financial aid. Ours does.

Parents Why do high level JO gymnastics?

I re-read your questions, and I am not sure what you are asking. I guess, is the time & money dedicated to the sport at the higher levels worth it? This is so individual, and based on your family structure and resources. I can imagine many situations where the family simply cannot support it...

Parents Why do high level JO gymnastics?

Because my 2 daughters love the sport and said they would run away if I made them quit. They chose gymnastics, not me. Their dad and I just tried to get out of their way. Also, because it was possible for our family; we had the resources to make it work, and we only have the 2 girls so it...

    WAG Steve Penny arrested

I just went back and read a couple of those early exchanges. Very sad in hind sight, but one thing stood out - "Steve Penny is totally innocent and time will prove that. Wait and see" (paraphrasing). Well, we did wait and see, and we all know how that one turned out.

    WAG Nationals super team

If it's true, I'm also very disappointed because part of the excitement of qualifying to Nationals is having an excuse to explore a new city. Not going back to somewhere you've already been multiple times.

    WAG Nationals super team

I heard a rumor that Nationals will be held in Indianapolis for the next 5 years. I'm hoping the rumor is wrong. I also heard that next year there will be 5 weeks between Regionals and Nationals. I'm hoping that rumor is wrong, too.

    WAG Nationals Apparel

My daughter and I were discussing what to do with her last comp leo; my favorite idea is a Cochella (music festival) outfit; pair the leo with fishnets, Doc Marten boots and a tutu. Second idea is to pull all the crystals off and make earrings. (Many many earrings)

Parents Another round of "Your kid might be a gymnast IF..."

When your entire first load of laundry on Saturday is leos, booty shorts, sports bras and leggings (washed on "hand wash" setting, of course)

    WAG Eastern/Westerns & L10 Nationals Leos

All I know is Region 1 = Merlot. Or, deep dark red, for those who don't drink wine.

    Parents not watching meets

This is something I struggle with a lot. Although after the fact, I am glad I was at a meet, it is very difficult during the competitions. As someone else said, it can bring out a side of myself that I really don't like - for me it is fear of injury, competitiveness, and worry that my kids...
