To the best of my knowledge there isn’t one. Which is why I’m here. Was a gymnastics coach who transitioned into diving but can’t really find any online chat. It’s a much smaller world.
happy to chat here :).
Good luck to your daughter, diving can be a good transition after gymnastics but...
*Can you explain why the Chinese divers were able to achieve such minimal splashes?*
that’s a good question. In my opinion- as far as I’m aware there have been limited studies- it's a number of factors.
first is some divers just have the ability to enter like that. Whether it’s awareness...
Yes the difficulty calculations are very similar to trampoline too.
no the other categories can’t twist. If the dive twists it is automatically in the twist group (5). So you couldn’t do forward twist, back twist etc as 2 of your groups, for example.
free position means any- so it doesn’t...
Twist can be any way- if it has a twist, it’s a 5.
so you can do forward 1.5 somersaults with 1 twist - 5132D
5-twist
1-forward take off
3- 3 half somersaults
2- 2 half twists
D- free position
or back twist, reverse twist (gainer), armstand twist etc. Inward twist is possible but never done...
yes, in the same way gymnastics rules are- if you know where to look and what to look for :D
for international senior- including the olympics, armstand is required for men but not for women. I believe ncaa rules are different though as i think females do the same as males.
crash course:
There...
OK- as simply as I can :D
Firstly shapes:
A- straight
B- pike
C- tuck
D- "free". so usually for twists where you may twist straight but somersault tuck/pike.
Dive numbers:
First number is direction:
1- Forward
2- Back
3- Reverse (so "gainer" in gym terms, forward take off but back somersault)...
I do not think the picture is as rosy as is painted. Everything I have seen in elite diving it is as tough as gymnastics. Chinese coaches are very, very tough. The culture is different.
Applauding the failures may seem like a nice thing, but landing like in that video, flat from 10m, there is...
Oh it can be/is the same in diving too. Many clubs have chinese or eastern european coaches, and their methods are very much as in the article. Clubs are sticking with these coaches as they produce results quickly, at least in the short term. It is very similar to gymnastics when producing...
Yes that's Scuba Diving.
I haven't been able to find an active diving forum either, hence hanging round here. If you find one let me know!
Happy to chat though :)
Many of my divers are on the gymnastics team ;).
while there are some transferable skills, gymnasts often don't adjust to diving as well as you might think. Many are conditioned to land feet first, and never easily get that extra half somersault. Twist and hurdle techniques are different, and...
My divers use Donjoy or Skidz.
Same principle- to stop the wrist hyperextending. In diving they're almost purely preventative and mainly used on higher boards where the impact is greater. They're used from any age or level, but mainly when a child starts to take dives up to 5m and above...
Ok- so then.
You, as a coach, decide to enter your divers in a competition. The rules state there is no difficulty bonus, it'e execution scores only. So a 3.5 is 1.0, same as a 1.5.
You choose to enter that competition (Xcel), rather than one which uses FINA DD (JO).
You can't then turn...
I'm a diving coach.
Diving is the same. I would never have a child compete a front double over a clean 1.5 pike. I don't know about your scoring over there but here dives to feet rarely score above a 5/6. You just can't get the clean entry.
I work doubles in training, as eventually they...
Diving and gmnastics are two very different sports. Approach, take off, rebound, come out, body shapes are all very different. Landings obviously, and twisting technique.
It's not as easy for ex- gymnasts to transfer over as you'd think, either.
O/p if you are a diving coach, as good as you...
It doesn't transfer as well as people think it does.
The basic problem, as has been mentioned, is that one teaches head first, one feet first. Twisting technique, arm technique, take off and hurdle steps are different. You need to travel away from the board, which is not ideal in gymnastics...
