That article is atrocious. I can't believe the New York Times gave her a platform to justify her abuse as "caring too much." Those poor kids whose parents were quoted. A 10 year old should not be doing "9-5 work." Yes, they can work hard, but they should still be having fun.
Well, our gym had to shut down as of last Saturday. We decided to head to Florida for a few weeks, but I don't think we'll try to find a gym since we won't be there that long. At least we'll be somewhere warm for Zoom workouts! And hopefully our gym will be able to open by the end of the month.
Maybe I'm the outlier, but I would leave it up to her to make the decision. If she changes her mind after a year, she's young enough that you could go back to dance or gymnastics (whichever one she didn't choose to focus on). My YDD had to choose between dance and gymnastics at 4 (the hours...
Yes, I think you're right. I don't think I'm ready to pull the trigger just yet. They're announcing new restrictions in our state today so that may give me a better idea of how severe it will be.
I re-read my post and the way I wrote it makes it sound like we would be moving because of the gym shutting down. Really, I'm the one who wants to move - this is my chance to go somewhere warm for the winter because the girls can do school remotely and my husband and I can work remotely. But I...
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by relocation for gym at my kids' levels, but we wouldn't be relocating just so they can be in the gym, although that could be one of the benefits. I know CA is the most likely to shut down, but if we have to be in a place that is shut down I would rather it be...
We live in the Midwest and I'm worried that we're headed toward another lockdown. My older daughter's school is moving to distance learning and it seems like only a matter of time until my younger daughter is in the same situation. If the gym has to close I'm seriously considering moving for the...
Ours started with 12 hours per week for the first 2 weeks- 3 hour practices 4 days a week. They also had home workouts to complete. Starting next week they are bumping up to 5 days and 20 hours. This will be my daughter’s first time at 5 days (training level 8) so we’ll see how it goes. I’m glad...
Hmmm. Well I guess we’ll be getting an update tomorrow. Although it sounded like they had worked out all the details with MDH. That will be disappointing for all the girls.
I looked at the list just out of curiosity, not expecting to see anyone that I knew. But one of the names on there is the head coach from the first gym we went to. My girls were never on the team, just in the rec program, but we do know people who are on the team there. Is there any way to get...
How wonderful for her! I wouldn't say our gym is very intense, but I think JO in general is high hours and more on the intense side. Her coach says she can drop a day or leave early, but she's not interested in that. We're all still holding out hope that she will change her mind, but the lower...
That is awesome! It does look amazingly fun. What levels did she transfer into? Just curious where my daughter might end up. I actually haven't mentioned anything to her yet because we're holding out hope that she will change her mind by the end of the season, but the idea of less training hours...
Hello - my 10 year old daughter is currently a Level 7 JO gymnast. A couple weeks ago she started talking about quitting gymnastics or switching to Xcel. I'm not entirely sure where this is coming from since she seems to enjoy being in the gym and is still excited about learning new skills...
