Hi. My son is 12 and is having pain with severs again. He also has high arches and a tight ligament in his foot causing pain. We were told tumbling shoes may help for the severs. Has anyone used them? Any recommendations for which ones?
Thank you. It’s a sports orthopedic who is very familiar with gymnasts and has worked with some of our high level teammates. He also works with the US ski team and professional baseball team. We also plan to get a PT that is familiar with and works with gymnasts. We will see what they say before...
Hi. I’m just looking for any advice or maybe just a shoulder to cry on. My son is 10 1/2. He has been at his current gym since he was 19 mos old. Started in a parent/tot class while his sister did a gym class. He has been on team since he was 5 1/2. He loves gymnastics but then it’s also all he...
I always get confused too! In my head I think of it the opposite way then it’s called. My son explains it and it makes perfect sense to him but to me it’s still backwards. So I just think of what I want to call it and say the opposite when I’m talking to him about it.
That is so helpful and encouraging. Thank you!! The coach that they just fired has tons of experience and was so understanding. He explained that lots of boys go through this. That around 11 they get their determination back. He was helping my son through it and teaching him to speak up when he...
Thank you both for the perspective. I will definitely not take that comment to heart now. It was always said when my son was getting frustrated and mad at himself.
Also, thank you samsmama for the encouragement that he will get better with the sensitivity. Age 9 has definitely been the...
Hi everyone. I posted last year that my 9 year old, level 6, son was going through a rough time and had gone though a few coaching changes. Well we ended up getting a great coach at the gym last September. He was a perfect fit for my son! It took time but over the last ten months the coach...
All boys level 4-10 and JD go to state. There are no requirements. Even the Xcel can sign up to compete at state. It's all in one weekend and place. Level 5 and up can qualify to regionals.
He definitely seems to be! Any time I talk to him about it he says not to worry, we will work through it. He definitely seems to be trying to connect with the boys and is figuring out quickly what they each need. He's very experienced so I'm sure he's been through it before.
Thank you all so...
I think you have a very valid point. He was really close to the coach who left a year ago and we still keep in touch. He had been his coach since he was 4, other then his year of level 4, but we did some privates with him during that time. He had also had the next coach for a couple years before...
Thank you all. He is pretty competitive and has had blocks, loss of skills, and frustration in the past. But never lasting weeks. Blocks yes but not to the point where he is upset over it. And is so happy and proud when he beats a fear. He also has a history of crying during strength. Was really...
He takes awhile to warm up to changes. This new coach pushes him and is tough but in a good positive way. He's not harsh. My son had a tough coach before this as well that he liked (was fired) but then for a few months was with an easy relaxed coach before we hired the new one. So he got lazy...
Thank you. Yes, he keeps growing...a lot! He knows that effects things. He's very tall for his age. We try to talk about ways to control his anger and how he used to get upset over video games and has learned to control that. Needs to do the same at gym etc. I tell him he'll get it and sometimes...
Hi. My son just turned 9 a couple months ago. He is level 6 this year. He was doing great but recently he started getting frustrated over skills. One that he used to be able to do and lost but also bonus skills that he's still learning. He is fully ready and capable to compete level 6 but has...
My son has a lot of the same. He always hates change and develops fears over skills, even those he's previously had. He is going into his 4th year of team, competing level 6 this season. He is 8. He recently changed to a different practice group which meant leaving the boys/friends he's been...
Our gym actually started this last season. They only did a couple non-sanctioned meets and then state. There were a couple other gyms in our area that had some boys as well. They were a completely different session to themselves. We have started to invite more boys to the xcel rather then level...
Do you need the allotment for those who qualify to regionals? If it's to qualify to state that would be under the state info. I'm in Arizona and all our gymnasts go to state. But we just got the allotment for how many qualify to regionals. I can post that link since it's on the region 1...
