It does depend on the gym's rules, but when my DD switched gyms she went from pre-team lvl 2, straight to lvl 3 and competed within 6 months of switching. At her new gym they do not have a pre-team lvl 2 or any lvl 2. They put you on pre-team training for lvl 3 after you've passed all 4 girls...
You are lucky and blessed that she's never had a rip! My DD has been dealing with rips (and sometimes multiple at a time) since lvl 3 (she's now training lvl 7). And from experience I can tell you the warm tea bag (black tea) does dry it out and it can crack and bleed.
Our regiment consists...
Thank you everyone for the insight! I learned a lot about things I did not know much about (walk ons, D1 vs D2 schools etc). I figured the hopes were probably out of reach, but hey I guess anything can happen -- even switching sports.
My DD is a fast learner and very strong and definitely...
We have a lot of girls from our gym who continue their gymnastics career in College so I see this constant reminder that it could be a possibility. I am wondering if it is too late to even consider this for my DD?
She started girls basic 1 in 2013 (yes the class for girls who don't even know...
That is awesome! It's not until you've been down in the dumps with scoring or had a bad season that you truly appreciate when they do make the podium and achieve personal records. Those are the moments we cry tears of joy for our babies. :)
Thx everyone for the insight and tips! This was a lvl 6 routine which is my understanding that she only has to cast above 45 degrees right?
She can do the kip cast handstand, but failed at the last regular season meet so she didn't attempt to go all the way up at State (for the sake of not...
Hi CB world!
We just finished competing lvl 6 State last weekend. DD did very well (placed 3rd AA)!
Here is her bar routine video (9.2 4th place) and I am hoping for a bit of education from experienced parents, coaches, and athletes.
#1. My DD does not straddle when doing her kip cast...
We were told hurdling on the same foot every time is how it should be done in. My daughter will balk the vault if she ends up with the wrong foot on the hurdle. Now that she is in lvl 6 it's not so much of an issue anymore, but in lvl 3 and 4 it was - they were still trying to figure out which...
Hello again everyone!
Last year I posted a video of my daughter's lvl 5 vault and asked for critique/input/deductions from experienced parents and coaches. There was a lot of input which was awesome, however there was a debate whether she was taking a "big" step or a "little" step on the...
I have to admit I was cringing when I read your post. How can you have a chance at having good vaults without knowing your number? My DD is just finishing up lvl 6 and is a 2x state vault champ so I like to think we have some valuable input for you.
At one of our recent meets our coach tried...
Oooo yeah, we just went through the hell of the flyways ourselves. Similar story to yours...DD hit her feet on the top bar, landed crooked and partially tore 2 ligaments in her foot. Once she was able to perform full practice, she was not able to "let go" of the bar anymore. The coaches had...
Not sure if this helps, but my lvl 6 DD has that very same jump series (split jump followed by the flirty toe twiddle thing -- sorry I have no idea what that is called, lol) and she got a 9.5 on beam at the Manhattan Classic last weekend. The meet prior to that she got a 9.225 so I think it's...
It's funny you said that because one of her coaches noticed this last week and told her the exact same thing! She just had a meet in NY and got the highest score out of all the lvl 6s in all age groups. Her step was smaller this time for sure. It did help. Such a small thing to make such a...
I've seen this happen. (Region 1, California - that may not matter): http://www.mymeetscores.com/gymnast.pl?gymnastid=21434065. This girl went lvl 4, competed a couple of meets as a 5, scored out, but then finished the season as a 4. Mind you she competed lvl 4 at States not lvl 5.
Hey! I asked this very thing a few months ago for my daughter. Here was some of the advice that was given: https://www.chalkbucket.com/forums/threads/tips-stretches-drills-to-straighten-back-leg-on-beam-split-jump.57450/
We had a girl (who left our gym) who was struggling with her kip to make lvl 4. The coach said she had weak pectorals so they told her mom to have her do push ups. I assume they followed that advice at home, but I don't know for sure. She did get her kip a few weeks later.
