Offshoot from the gym opening suggestions thread

That's an offensive comment. Comments like that are forcing a polarisation between 'good' and 'evil' into a discussion that could have reasonable positions on both sides. Save strong words for the argument itself, rather than attacking the people you're arguing with.

    Parents Coronavirus

I haven’t read the thread yet. We’re In NY. Last Thursday they canceled Friday, Monday and Tuesday practice and our Meet that weekend (NJ) was canceled. This Monday they canceled practice indefinitely.

    WAG Proximal humerus fracture

I don’t have personal experiences with a shoulder injury and my dd’s situation was different, but I agree with getting an opinion from a second Ortho. When my dd fractured her elbow and continued to have limited range of motion the PT suggested we get a second opinion. Her ortho kept insisting...

Another alternative depending on where you live is USAIGC. https://www.usaigc.com/

when can or should your child start to compete

(disclaimer, NY mom and I aren't related even though I may have referred to my DW as NY mom in the past) Welcome to CB! My opinion is to let the coaches worry about when she's ready to compete. Can you set up a meeting to discuss it with them?

    Parents Advice Needed :)

Disclaimer: Most of the advice that you’re getting is from parents that have been doing this longer than me (and my dd). I think it’s time for a new gym because it sounds to me like your current gym is not interested in what’s best for your dd now. I don’t think that it makes a difference if...

Parents 2 1/2 years after her injury, my DD overcame her fear

Back in Jan ’17, my DD broke her elbow attempting a CW on beam. When we were in the ER after her accident, she vowed that she was never going to step on a beam again. While it didn’t take her long to change her mind about that, she did come back much more fearful than she had been before...

    Parents Alternatives to JO?

USAIGC is a less-competitive alternative to USAG with some gyms in CA. Here's a directory: https://www.usaigc.com/clubinformation.cfm The hours are probably lower (especially at the higher levels) and, I assume for many gyms, it's less expensive. If you're interested and any of the gyms listed...

WAG USAIGC World Championships - Good Luck!!

We came, we saw, we had fun! My DD gave it her all, but the competition was fierce. She recognized that although she didn't win any medals, it was still a solid meet for her (other than floor, it wasn’t anything specific, it just wasn’t her cleanest routine). She was also super excited to spend...

WAG Could USAG limit training hours?

I agree that some gyms blatantly ignore this rule in USAIGC. That puts the gyms that follow the rule at a big disadvantage. I also wonder if USAG has the resources to enforce this.

WAG USAIGC World Championships - Good Luck!!

As some of you know, USAIGC is one of the less competitive alternatives to JO. The last meet of the season is the “World Championships”, which is next week in Nashville. While it’s not difficult to qualify at my dd’s level, I’m super proud of her for all the hard works she’s put in this season...

Parents I just hugged the State champ

I was active on CB A few years ago when my DD was on level 2 pre-team. I was overwhelmed with the support I received from this community after she broke her arm at practice. I thought that this would be a good time to send an update for anyone interested :D. More background… She became much...

    WAG Beam dismount question-copper2

Welcome! Happy to see another IGCer , there aren't many of us here. My dd is in C2. While I can't say for certain, I know I've seen plenty of dismounts like you've described with high scores. How did she do compared to everyone else? I've felt there has been some inconsistency regarding the...
