    WAG Coach Problems

It isn’t normal. It’s already too much. I’d find another gym.

WAG 5 year old round off back handsprings-average age??

My dd and the kids who she trained with had this skill at that age. That was 10 years ago. Most of her original group has quit. Two are still competing, now at level 10.

WAG MG Elite Podium Training Leo

The top front of the leotard appears to be mesh with no liner, so when the top dropped at the end, I absolutely think she pulled it up to keep from exposing herself. Most sports design uniforms for performance. These mesh, cutout leotards are clearly not designed with the athlete’s ability to...

WAG MG Elite Podium Training Leo

I hate these backless, mesh, strappy leotard trends, and I’m looking forward to when they are out of fashion. Who looks at a gymnastics leotard and thinks: “How can I take more fabric away from this garment so that it covers even less?” ?!

I’ve never heard of this one. Was it called something else before? Who are the coaches?

WAG Follow-up Poll: Should American gymnasts compete for other countries?

My dd had the chance to train in Deva for a portion of a summer, because Romania had nicer equipment than her gym in the country where we were living. She thought their equipment was nice, but it was very hot.

WAG Follow-up Poll: Should American gymnasts compete for other countries?

Not everyone born in the US lives in the US their whole lives. There’s a significant number of people who’ve lived in other countries. My kid has lived, trained, and competed overseas. She may have a chance to compete for one of the countries she’s lived in, and yes, I think it’s absolutely fair...

Parents Level 3 Conditioning - Too Hard?

My kid has been on team for 9 years, starting in level 1 and is now in level 9. She’s never cried during conditioning. I’ve never seen a practice with multiple children crying during conditioning. What you’re describing is abnormal and raises huge red flags.

    WAG Attire deduction

USAG code has a 0.2 once per meet deduction, but I don’t think it’s being taken.

    WAG Attire deduction

This is the English version. This was issued for FIG judges. As far as I know, USAG has not issued clarification. I’m not sure why any gym would want to test the rules about being backless, having spaghetti straps, or being super high cut on the hips. There are many beautiful, functional...

    WAG Gym(s) question

I recognize that this would be expensive, but, have you thought about taking your daughter to visit some of the gyms? You may be able to do a short trial at several. One good thing about the Texas area gyms: there are so many gyms in the Houston / Dallas area that you could switch if she...

    WAG Attire deduction

I’m curious if any judges are taking the deduction. I’m thinking not. I saw one team last weekend with a totally backless leotard, not a single strap. It had a clip at the neck, sleeves, fabric over the butt, and absolutely no fabric on the back. There was no way a bra could be worn with it, and...

    WAG Attire deduction

That’s right. It’s not USAG. It’s international FIG. So, I’m guessing this style is popular outside of the US also, and FIG felt the need to define “backless.”

    WAG Attire deduction

Backless leotards were covered in the latest edition of FIG Flack, am FIG newsletter aimed at judges. Straps were not considered backs. I’ve seen full, completely open backs at competitions also...

    WAG Attire deduction

The USAG code of points clearly states no spaghetti straps, no backless leotards. We are about half way through our optional season. I’m seeing a lot of backless leotards at competitions. Does anyone know why a gym would chose a backless leotard, and are judges taking the deduction? Or, if they...

    Parents Ethics question

If the judge knows your dd well, and knows all of the mistakes she usually makes, that judge can catch more deductions in real-time than a judge who has never seen your dd.

    WAG Choreography

I think she’s really trying to sell the routine, it’s just not a good fit for her. I wouldn’t say she’s not invested. She likes her gym a lot, and has set a goal for herself to score really well. So, it’s not a timing issue in the sense that we moved at a bad time or moved too close to the start...

    WAG Choreography

The routine dd had last year had music selected just for her and was choreographed with her mannerisms and movement style in mind. This year, she got a handed down routine and music. This year’s routine doesn’t fit her as well, but she’s really trying. There’s about a 0.3 drop in her scores, so...
