No I don’t think so. I think a great athlete needs to fall in the hands of the right coaches to really excel. My daughter would have been a great TOPS candidate. She has always been way ahead of her teammates in strength without even trying. Super strong and flexible naturally and always the...
If the coaches won’t give her more time to get the skill or let her compete without it, and she doesn’t want to do Xcel, then I would look somewhere else. She can definitely do level or 6 at another gym if that’s all she’s missing!
What is her injury? She should still be able to at least some conditioning and stretching right?
I’m sure they will take her for their level 4 team if she had a good season of level 3. You have no reason to lie or exaggerate her skills because they will know sooner or later what her abilities...
It is definitely much harder! I didn’t realize it until Just recently. My daughter is a level 3 and I thought wow level 3 is so easy and she has all of her level 4 skills so why compete 3? In my mind, she has the skills so why not move up to level 4? But now I realize there is so much more to it...
I would go for it. With her being 10, you don’t want to wait any longer to switch to JO if that’s what she wants. The conditioning will help those skills come easily and they will look good when she gets them. We have lots of high level optionals at our gym that were 9 and 10 years old in level 3.
I feel your pain!! I have a level 3 too and our summer practice is 2:30-5:50 Monday-Thursday! We both work but I had to quit my job at the hospital and switch to working in home health care for a more flexible schedule to accommodate her crazy gym hours.
Oh no this might be me! I love sharing videos of new exciting big skills and I do post videos from meets.. but I can’t help it. I get so excited and I am so proud of her. I figure some people don’t care but the ones that do enjoy seeing her progress (like friends and family) will get to keep up...
This sort of happened to my daughter when she was about 6. She was clearly too advanced to be in the rec class that she was in, and they mentioned she was ready for hotshots and explained to us this was pre-team. My daughter got SO excited but then she was never evaluated and every time I...
That is a very tough position to be in. It’s tough but as others suggested you might just have to deal with the drama and say “Sorry I can’t this time”. It sucks that she put you in this position.
I feel like competing levels 1-3 is almost a waste of time but I can tell they are having fun, getting hooked on the fun of the sport and competing, and our gym does condition and uptrain quite a bit so they are actually very prepared for level 4. From what I can see.
Who knows, at our gym it might be lol. The ones that skipped level 2 and are going to level 3 are the ones who scored 37s and 38s all season. but I know they are also taking into account skills not just scores.
I hope you find the right medicine dose because I know that can make a huge difference. Non stimulants just knocked my daughter out. She is on a long acting stimulant but we are going to add a short acting soon. If privates aren’t an option keep doing the clinics and consider adding a tumbling...
My daughter is in JO but I always wonder if she will ultimately end up in Xcel because of her ADHD. Remind your daughter that Simone Biles had ADHD. She CAN achieve her goals. If she works her butt off she can still go back to JO assuming the gym allows it.
I can see also how it disappointing to be placed in Xcel when her goal is level 10. But Xcel might be a good place for her at the moment to upgrade skills and focus on her strengths. Hopefully your gym has an Xcel program with enough hours and experienced coaches that will allow her to progress...
My 8 year old has ADHD. I made a post similar to this not too long ago. She struggles. And as your daughter, she can focus when being challenged to learn a new skill but doesn’t have the concentration to perfect a routine down to all the little tiny things that need to be perfectly clean. We...
I pay whatever the gym tells me to pay lol. They don’t do super sparkly Leo’s at our gym. They also do short sleeves until level 5. Trying to cut cost I guess. This our first year. We payed 200$. For Leo+warmups+bag. Not bad at all but I know in coming years it will get more expensive.
