    MAG Mens College Programs

The light bulb finally came on at USAG....about a year late, but at least there is an initiative. Develop men's programs in college athletic departments outside of Power 5 football universities. https://usagym.org/pages/post.html?PostID=25710

MAG Minnesota to cut men’s gymnastics :(

Now that the Big 10 will play football this Fall (and all other Fall sports), It will be interesting to watch the Minnesota AD attempt to talk out of both sides of his mouth as he defends his decision at the board of regents vote. Economic pressures caused this action due to these...

MAG Iowa men's team cut, this will be last season

Agree somewhat, but I think football is the problem here, not the solution. They save $184,000 this year cutting gymnastics on a potential $100 million shortfall. College sports is a business and some have severely mismanaged their resources....those who mismanaged should pay, not 18-22...

MAG Iowa men's team cut, this will be last season

Reality is setting in for my rising junior and his past 10 years of work...he was so happy in June when College coaches were contacting him (including Iowa), but we knew when the B10/PAC12 decided not to play football this Fall that this was a likely outcome. I am hoping I am completely wrong...

MAG Bad News for NCAA non-revenue sports

With no 2020 NCAA basketball tournament revenues and the reality that there may be no College football season for the Power-5 schools that still have NCAA Men's Gymnastics (Oklahoma still has a chance in the BIG12), heartbreaking to know what is about to happen to all the men's non-revenue...

    MAG Teams

After the first week back in the gym, the owner contacted us last night to let us know she intends to eliminate the boys program effective 1 July. Tough business decision I’m sure. Some boys will find other programs, but for some the drive or other will cause them to drop the sport. Like all...

MAG Anyone going to the Championships in Boston?

Juniors qualified for the meet by placement at JO Nationals in the 15-16 and 17-18 JE divisions, or if didn't qualify at nationals, by national qualifier (top 6), or by petition. For Juniors, this Meet determines who will make JR National Team. For those that make JR national team, JR...

    MAG 13, level 5 -- JD?

I think you have the right attitude about this, but if he is progressing quickly and loves the sport, then I would say he is right on track to do this in college. Nobody knows what these kids will really do until they start to go through puberty and they continue to accelerate and develop well...

    MAG Regional Weekend #1

That is awesome! So proud I got to see my L9/13 win L9 JE AA Regionals days before I deployed. I will have to monitor Nationals from an austere location via MSO and Facebook live if I'm willing to wake up at 2am for that feed. I know the highlight of my son's gym career was opening ceremonies...

    MAG Rules you would change?

Because Junior FIG scoring is now used for both L9 and L10....scoring and rules for all those kids is comparable (except for the dismount scoring differences in L9 and L10)....it would be an easy time to re-"band" the age groupings for levels. With consistent scoring across L9/L10 paired with...

MAG USAG Men's Program Issues - Sean Townsend Speaks Out

https://gymnasticsville.com/2018/01/29/olympian-sean-townsend-speaks-usa-gymnastics-corruption/ Most of the substance of the podcast link is in reference to Sean Townsend's recent facebook post. It describes what appears to be a past grievance regarding MAG senior elite sponsorship in the...

MAG USAG Decertification and Options for MAG Program Restructure

It might seem unfair that a potential USAG decertification could affect MAG as well as WAG, but in the big picture of what is healthy for athletes, it may be warranted. It is a reality that should be considered as the calls for USAG decertification will only increase in the coming weeks as...

    Little Big Shots

If you have a son aged 11-14 doing gymnastics then you already know that Steve Harvey was the last to be informed that the subject of this thread is the real deal. As everyone has already noted, great athlete, humble competitor and tremendous person. Our son is his level/age in same region and...

MAG Men's Competition Program Update #3 Published

Interesting how quickly that went down. I agree with the objective, but questioned the timing. I don't think it will make that big a difference in scoring overall, but surely would have been the difference in a few close rankings for HB, PB, FX, and SR top 6 awards. My DS who was 8/11 last...

MAG Men's Competition Program Update #3 Published

For those with JE boys competing at Nationals, there is a very important Age Group Competition Update #3 on the USAG website. Bottom Line Up Front: No stick bonuses for easy dismounts and graduated bonuses for harder bonuses. It appears that all levels (8,9,10) are affected based on the...
