    WAG 2020 Olympics

It's a dreary rainy day. Who do you think has the chops to represent the USA in 2020? Will anyone from 2016 besides Simone have a chance?

    WAG Div 1 Difficulty

I just attended a Div 1 Women's meet at a highly ranked school and it was so much fun but it strikes me that the difficulty appears to be the same as the first year level 10s at our gym. Do athletes learn new skills in college or do they just perfect the skills that they go in with? If so, is...

    WAG YouTube / Instagram stars

Someone brought up YouTube and Instagram stars in a previous post which begs the questions. Are there any people out there who are serious about their self-promotion that actually have a chance at being on the national team? I am thinking of Whitney Bjerken types.

WAG How many optionals are on your team?

I am just wondering what the average number of optionals is. I know it varies dramatically. Our current gym has 20 (including 3 9s and 3 10s). Our last gym had about 30.

WAG L9 or L10 event specialist

Is there a path to college gymnastics for gymnasts who become even specialists at level 9? I think I read that you can qualify to Regionals as an event specialist but not to Easterns or Westerns or Nationals. How do you get a collegiate caches attention of you can't advance beyond Regionals?

    Parents Carpool woes

Normally I don't mind doing for other people, it takes a village for sure. But how do you handle it when you feel like you are take advantage of it terms of carpool, free babysitting etc. A friend asks me constantly to look after her daughter before school, after school, etc. There is never an...

    Parents Low body fat

My daughter gains muscle just fine, but appears to still have almost no body fat at almost 14. Does anyone else worry about their gymnast daughter's development? Our doctor says it's great to be so lean, but she just does not look like her non-gymnast friends. Does this change as they mature?

WAG IGC requiring female campers to wear shorts or leggings

I thought this was interesting in light of another thread recently about having the options of wearing shorts with competition leotards. "International Gymnastics Camp’s concern with the current issues facing USA Gymnastics drives us to take a pro-active approach to ensure gymnastics is a safe...

Parents Chiropractic care more common among gymnastics families?

I see A LOT of mention of chiropractic care on this site and Facebook groups and I wonder if it is more common for gymnasts to seek chiropractic care than other children involved in sports. Our family does not see a chiropractor so as an outsider it seems almost cultish. I don't hear...

    WAG level 7 floor

What are the most common tumbling passes for level 7 floor? I mean I can read this: 1. One Acro series (min.3 directly connected flight elem. - one a back layout to 2 feet) 2. A direct connection of 2 or more forward acro elements with flight – one must be a salto or aerial 3. Dance Passage w/...

WAG Repeating a level or moving on

My daughter is currently a level 9 and is having a kind of meh year. Most of her teammates from last year are repeating level 8 and doing well. My DD has never repeated and has never gone to regionals. My question is, does any of this matter? She felt ready to move to 9. Won't they all end up in...

    WAG East Coast Travel Meets

Our gym usually going to one fly away meet per year and I was not too excited about the location we went to this year. (The meet was fine.) What are some of the big East Coast meets that you all like and would travel for. I know about the ones in Atlanta. Anything in DC or Philly or Chicago? OK...

    WAG L7 beam series

All the posts about stress fractures in girls' backs, confirm my desire to keep my daughter from doing back walkovers on the beam. As she moves to level 7 and needs a series, what are options that don't include a back walkover? She's currently competing back handspring at level 5.

WAG What level scores the easiest/highest?

Is there a level that has the reputation of scoring the easiest/highest? In looking at scores from the weekend from a huge meet, level 6 scores look way higher overall than 5 or 7.

    WAG Brestyan's Las Vegas

Is anyone going to Brestyan's Las Vegas meet? I am surprised that the schedule has not been set yet. When we went two years ago, we got the schedule by Dec. 1.

WAG What apparatus most often keeps gymnastics from advancing to the next level?

For example, is the release move in bars required for level 9 a common obstacle?

WAG Do college gymnasts learn new skills?

Do college gymnasts learn new skills or do they just maintain the skills they already have. And if they don't learn new skills does it get boring?

    WAG Level 5 bars scores

My daughter has not had her first Level 5 meet yet, but in looking at scores from a meet this past weekend, there were A LOT of really low bars score ( 4s and 5s) in level 5. Is this a known thing? I've never seen scores that low and have another child competing 9.

WAG Are NCAA women gymnasts getting taller?

I was just looking at the roster for Oklahoma and of 16 women on their team, 15 are 5'3" or taller. Four of them are 5'7". I'm curious about why there is still talk of people being "too tall" for gymnastics when the reigning NCAA champion team only has one competitor who is less than 5'3".
