Learn how to front layout if you haven't already - it is really effective for developing FHS to pad up the vault table (drape a 8" or 4" over it, landing mats on the other side) and practice front tucking over the whole table and building up to a front layout over the table.
A common...
We have two bronze groups - one that trains twice a week for ~3 hours /week and another that trains 3 times a week for ~5.5 hours /week - we started the groups 5 months ago and it is going great.
The last time I did any vaulting or tumbling, I liked the ezy wraps. I also used to use them for handstand holds but go without them now. I coached a gymnast with degenerative arthritis in her hand - the ezy wraps didn't solve all her problems but she much preferred them over tiger paws. They...
I am coaching an 8 year old gymnast (xcel bronze) who has super flexible shoulders - they can interlace their fingers and dislocate back and forth comfortably and they do it all the time for fun. Their back flexibility is great too - back bend front limber and walkovers both ways with good form...
I think the ro needs to turn over more and land higher so they can punch more and jump less. RO up to panel and RO rebound back into a cheese mat against a wall are my simple favorites.
If you have sufficient speed coming in, you really don't need to throw your head to flip, it'll just flip - my guess (take with a grain of salt) is she has some mistakes on the approach that are costing her speed, and throwing the head is a way to get back some of that lost speed... but throwing...
she could try practicing pushing up into a bridge and walking around to build comfort and coordination in the position. practice kicking to a wall handstand and alternating between flex feet and pointed feet...
the technique is simple - point your toes in the handstand, flex your feet as they...
Never taught or practiced either - but my understanding is:
chinese tap: piking through the top of the giant to speed up for a dismount or big release.
Tkatchev tap: horizontal arch so the resulting tap loads the bar down/forward to help launch the tkatchev up/past the bar.
It seems like high...
We have an early class and a later class for preteam - we canceled the later one for trick or treating but still ran the earlier one - 2/10 showed up. lots of tramp time :D
watch a video from the side of your kip - after the leg lift your legs should slide across the bar until the bar arrives in the crease of your hip. if your legs leave the bar before your hip is folded around the bar you will not be able to cast effectively.
Left side: hips move away from the...
1. hold yourself on top of the bar as long as you can after the clear hip - this will give you a chance to control the descent so you don't drop your feet as hard
2. get good (consistent reps every practice) at multiple glides in a row and leg lifts
3. if you can keep your feet up, but you...
Privates are great if you think of it as extra/more specific/tailored training for the dedicated kid + bonus pay for the coach. I don't think they are ever necessary. I never did or wanted to do privates as a gymnast, but some kids like one on one time. If it's worth it to the kid/parent, why not?
I'd skip the barrel and spend my time on
1. handstand bridge
2. front limber
3. nice slow front walkover attempts
I've never seen a gymnastics coach using a barrel to teach these. The barrel does too much heavy lifting - the gymnast has to do things that are hard to make strength and...
This is how I understand front pirouettes vs blind (back, reverse) pirouettes. Arrow is where the travelling hand goes. Front pirouette is like HS walking forward, blind is like walking backward.
