WAG German gymnasts' outfits take on sexualisation in sport

I wish wearing shorts for competition would be permitted, and become widespread enough that it's a genuine choice. I really do think not allowing it causes unnecessary stress and does cause teenagers to drop out of the sport. I am already worrying about how my daughter will manage it without...

    So what’s happening?

Yes, June would be too soon. Fingers crossed for October!

    So what’s happening?

Ah, I wondered if any younger ones were training. Is it just down to espoirs or all the way down to level 4/3? I've never really understood keeping it quiet to avoid upset, because tbh it's going to be pretty obvious at the next competitions who has been able to train and who hasn't anyway...

    So what’s happening?

Oh ok, I'm not on any other groups really, so I haven't seen it. I was just wondering who made the decisions and how they came to them. I agree it doesn't matter too much at this point for this time round, but I know some people are already predicting another lockdown next winter, and would...

    So what’s happening?

Does anyone know exactly who is training at the moment? As far as I can tell on the women's side, it's about 10 seniors and 5-10 juniors, and no one younger. Is that right? I'm just wondering because I saw that 3 entire divisions of ice hockey appear to be training and competing (despite being...

    Parents Boundaries

Reading it again, I think you mean the coach commented on her own weight. I would not raise this with the coach, but would chat to my child about how some people worry about it but she doesn't need to for x, y, z reasons. At the end of the day, many people (friends etc) will mention their own...

    Parents Boundaries

Could they have meant the comment as a compliment? I'm thinking along the lines of 'so much power for such a little dot' type comment, in which case I wouldn't worry at all. If it was negative, definitely I'd be very concerned.

    So what’s happening?

Wow, if compulsories aren't until June it would be hard to do another grade in the autumn though. We didn't have anything settled but it was a possibility to do comp 3 in spring then comp 2 in autumn to 'catch up' to her age group a bit... I know it can't be helped... it's just so frustrating!

    Parents Difficult decisions

We do an hour each way. Plus I have to come home in the middle for my other daughter, so 4 hours driving for a 4 hour practise. It is doable, but only worth it if they absolutely love it, and independently work incredibly hard at it (without needing encouragement). Basically it is a huge...

    So what’s happening?

Ah, ok, I hadn't seen that, I thought it was supposed to be Jan/Feb. Hopefully things will be better by June. What about compulsory 3 and national grades? Will they be done regionally do you think?

    So what’s happening?

Wow, the British Championships postponed for 2021! I hope at some stage things can get up and running again. Do we think the grades will go ahead? A girl at our new club has been waiting to take compulsory 1... And will the other grades happen? Or skip them again like last year...

    So what’s happening?

I really feel for the ones who just missed out on being nominated. By the time the nominated ones have trained for an extra six months this year and the others have lost six months, that's an awful lot of ground to make up for them.

    So what’s happening?

I assume that's just juniors in GB squad ready for internationals? So not still on compulsory pathway?

    So what’s happening?

Ah I think that must be before my time as I don't remember that from before. How is it split...do you choose which you want to enter or are there different scores to qualify for each one? Or something else?

    So what’s happening?

What do you mean about the new two tier challenge cup system?

How are things at your gym?

    So what’s happening?

Well...my daughter has had to move gyms as her training hours got halved due to distancing for covid, which apparently would be the case until distancing ended, by which time she would be too old for the compulsory route :( . On the other hand, she has now got a place working towards...

    So what’s happening?

Thanks for that info Jenny. Can I ask, what makes a gymnast eligible to skip a grade? Is it just their age and the fact they have the necessary skills to do the grade above the one they were originally training for or are there more criteria? Thanks

Parents Kip before grips vs now

I love the 'make 3 kips a day then put grips on' approach. My daughter lost her kip for 6 months after getting grips. I think this approach would have had her get them back much quicker.

    Compulsory levels

Yes, I agree with all you say. And she can keep practising the R&C at home, as she has been. I just feel for her - for 4 years (from ages 5 to 9), no one believed in her enough to offer her this route, although it's what she's always wanted, then this year, she finally was given the hours and...
