    Parents Too many training hours!

Can you ask about staying in the same group but doing 4 days instead of 5? Perhaps propose a trial period? I've seen a lot of kids have this type of arrangement.

    Parents Struggling on Bars

My daughter has hypermobile elbows as well and struggled on bars last year as an L6. Fast-forward a year later and she is amongst the strongest on bars. Her elbows do not seem to be an issue and she's never had any problems related to them. They really do progress a lot in a few months...

Wow! What a great story! Thank you for sharing. Your perseverance is an inspiration ❤️

    Parents Beam issues

I still see 11 year old girls practicing 16+ hours a week look not so comfortable on beam. It's a very hard apparatus and it probably won't look great for a while, so I wouldn't be worried. Having the skills on floor is the first step, so looks like your daughter is well on her way :) Practicing...

    WAG Stretching a Leo, 101

I've also tried the towel stuffing when the leo is damp. Just make sure you put enough towels for the fabric to stretch. It worked a bit but I didn't want to overdue it since it was my first time. I'm sure if you wanted to, you could have it strech quite a bit!

    WAG Cleaning up Floor Routine

I am a dancer, so I've been bugging my daughter about artistic details ever since she was a tiny gymnast! I only started really bugging her when she started competing at age 9. She didn't like it, so I tried to hold my thoughts in! When she was 10, she started to become more artistic naturally...

    Parents Canadian meet scores?

And from that website, there is a list updated every year with all the registered upper level gymnasts in the province. It's listed per gym. Here is the list from 2021-2022: https://www.gymqc.ca/gaf/athletes-elites/espoir

    Parents Canadian meet scores?

Here's the link: https://www.gymqc.ca/resultats. I think it's just available in French. GAF is for women and GAM for men. Hope this is what you were looking for!

    Parents Canadian meet scores?

The results are on the Gym QC website. They are not "live", but they are posted within a few days of the meets. Fyi, regional meets are not posted on there. Meet season has just started, so there isn't much on there yet for 2022-2023, but you'll find all the previous seasons in there. I imagine...

    Parents Unpopular Opinions

I find this to be a really interesting point. I often wonder about my daughter's gymnastics journey and if it's still "worth it". She never really got the chance to do compulsory levels because of Covid and did two competitions last year as a L6. She's a good gymnast, like most at that level...

    Parents Split jump

Doing split jumps on the trampoline is a great way to practice. Doing splits on the floor for better flexibility and leg strength exercises will also help. Getting that split jump from the ground is a lot harder then it looks! My daughter is just starting to have beautiful jumps now that she is...

Parents Tips on L6 beam and vault routines

Thanks for your feedback Em09! On beam, her jump at the start was a sissone. I wonder how much is deducted for the bent legs in the bh and those wobbles? On the vault, I'll have to check. I have not seen anyone do the Yurchenko on a mat in her group.

Parents Tips on L6 beam and vault routines

Hi folks! My daughter just had her first L6 comp this year and is looking for ways to improve her beam and vault routines. I would love to get advice from you on where she could have less deductions. I can see a few small things, but I am not experienced enough to give her detailed feedback...

    Parents Level 7 Vault Scores

Found this great article about level 6 & 7 vault scores. It has very helpful video examples and scores at the end too! Hope this helps :) It surely was helpful to me. My daughter will be competing level 6 this year and I had no idea what the vault even looked like lol. Competitions were...

Parents Don't know if I'm doing the right thing

Sounds like an exciting opportunity for your daughter! Of course, coming from a 2 year break and very short rec classes lately, she will have to expect a lot of catching up. I am surprised that they are letting her do back handsprings. I would be worried that she could get hurt or develop pain...

WAG (How much) could I learn?

I am not a coach, but do believe if you put in the time and consistent effort, you can learn back the skills you learned and more. 18 is still very young. My husband started training hard in rock climbing at 35. He is now 40 and climbs harder then most in the gym. But he has worked REALLY hard...

    WAG The Future of Elite

This conversation is really interesting! I am also curious about people's thoughts about this subject in Canada. I don't see many young gymnasts going the national route since Covid arrived. The Aspire program, comparable to TOPS in the US, is for age groups that were not able to train...

    Parents Gym Concerns

Wow, this is a lot to take in. It certainly doesn't sound like a healthy situation. My heart breaks for your daughter. Was it like that last year? Are there many new coaches? Have you talked to other parents of gymnasts that have been there for a long time? It would be good to find out if this...

Parents How to move to competitive gymnastics

What @gymgal said. Normally, gyms with high level gymnasts will recruit recreational girls for their pre-teams as young as 4. By 9, they are often either out of the sport already or practicing 12+ hours a week. However, most large gyms have a lot of different groups and perhaps yours has one...
