Regarding leaving when your kid doesn't want to....last year, before the season started, so late summer/early fall, I wanted to change gyms (for many reasons). My daughter did not...wanted to stay with her friends. I tried again just before Christmas to get her to change-still she refused. By...
Our house will be 50-60 minutes from the gym, depending on traffic. Practice is 4 hours and 10 minutes, 3 days a week, and 3.5 hours the last day. 2 of those days I will drop her off, take my boys to THEIR gym, then return to her gym. So that will decrease the amount of time I have to fill. One...
.....what do you your time? My daughter has just done a gym change, and the new gym is going to be almost an hour from home one way. I am usually pretty good about keeping myself occupied, but I am tying to be more purposeful going forward. So.....please share what you do to keep yourself busy...
Well, she didn’t qualify, so no need to worry about it! However, she has a teammate in a similar position that DID qualify, so they will have to figure out what they want do. Thank you for all of your thoughts on the matter!!
Gyms in the area that have high placing girls, that have colleges interested in them are: (in no particular order)
Bull City
TAG (Team Attraction)
Sonshine
RSG
My daughter had a lot of fear last year about vault.....she was doing that stupid Xcel silver vault that used the vault but then turned into a handstand flatback onto mats. She is tiny, and as some above, has trouble punching for both vault and front tucks. Last year she ended up falling between...
OP here.....ok, it is good to hear everyone’s thoughts. We ARE in the process of moving....our old house is actually sold and we are in a hotel until the new house is ready...but still in the same general area. My DD has had an evaluation at the new gym, and is scheduled to do a trial practice...
We are heading towards our state meet this weekend, and already have some plans in place to change gyms after this season. My daughter is unlikely to qualify for regionals, but if she does.....is it possible to change gyms and compete at regionals for the new gym? I do have her floor music on my...
We have a couple pairs from Target, a pair from Soffe outlet, and a couple pairs by Capezio that we got off Amazon (free shipping and few returns thanks to Prime, which helped find the right size). We also have a couple pairs of the velvet GK ones, but we got those from a consignment sale so...
No advice as far as the food situation, but wanted to say that my 7.5 year old son weighs only 43 lbs. He is pure muscle though.....some of these gymnasts are just tiny powerhouses!
Our gym uses Xcel as a path to JO. This year we have a total of 6 regular meets, then states (and regionals if qualified) Here are the distances:
home meet
4.5 hours away
1.5 hours away
6.5 hours away
9-10 hours away
1.5 hours away.
We are not required to attend any of them in particular...
Yes!! We have a coach at our gym who also judges, and we all groan when we hear she is judging one of our meets...she is a verytough judge, and definitely knows how the routines are SUPPOSED to look, and knows what each girls’ weaknesses are.....
I completely agree....the fudging of score out meets is not the crux of the problem. And we are looking elsewhere at the end of the season as I won’t be part of it.
I can’t say the girls that are affected by this are being unsafe...it is not my daughter’s level, although a friend’s daughter is...
I have known about this situation for several months and have not reported it for this exact reason.....I am not trying to ruin the gymnastics careers of any little girls!
However, it does bother me....first because this is plainly cheating, and the gym knows it...they told the parents not to...
So...I am aware of a gym that holds a non-advertised, in house mobility “meet”... there was only one judge. One girl broke her ankle during warm up, so didn’t even compete. Yet she was given qualifying scores. The other girls warmed up beam, performed the level 4 routine, then were asked to do a...
Yikes!! And how can the older girls find a bra to wear with that Leo? It already seems challenging enough with regular competition Leo’s!! (My daughter is no where near needing a bra yet so this is uncharted territory for us!)
Hmmm....I wonder why the variation? I don’t feel like it was group size in any way. My youngest was only 6 last year, and there were only 6 boys in his age group at state, and only 4 in the region (although regionals are affected by the numbers of boys allowed per state for each division , so...
