Parents Back Pain from Lumbar extension/hyperextension

My daughter was doing back walkovers and didn't kick hard enough on one, had all her weight over her shoulders but not enough momentum, and everything came down on her back hard and she hyper-extended her back. I have taken her to the pedi-chiropractor and there is no injury beyond lumbar...

    Parents Tumbling Class issues

I've been taking my daughter to the same gym for the past several months and it is the best program I have found in this area (and we have tried them all). After coaching for 17 years, my standards are probably a little higher than the average gym parent. I closed my gym a few years ago due to...

    Coaches Broken Springboard

I was watching American Ninja Warrior tonight and there was a competitor who was 250 lbs. They kept talking about his weight and how the course was not really designed to handle his weight. They do use springboards and this reminded me of a situation that happened when I was a very young, very...

    Parents Acrobatic Gymnastics

Anyone out there with kids in Acro Gymn? My daughter has recently switched from gymnastics to acro, so we are still getting into the swing of things. They asked her about auditioning for acro team in July, but I feel like everything is so new that I'm almost thinking she should do a year of acro...

Parents Back Pain at the Lower Levels

My daughter goes to tumbling for acrobatic gymnastics twice per week, one hour each practice. She has been complaining of back pain recently and I wasn't sure what to make of it. They spend a lot of time on walkovers and handsprings, so I assume this is what is causing the pain. Is this...

    Parents Iselin's Disease

Has anyone dealt with their child having Iselin's Disease? My daughter had xrays today and saw a specialist. The specialist said that in my daughter's case, it was caused by her femoral anteversion disorder which causes her to walk with her feet turned in, which in turn caused her tendons to...

    Parents Leotard Wedgies- ack!

My daughter is constantly picking her wedgies and it drives me INSANE!!! When they are doing lines, she will stop to pick in between each tumbling skills. Her leos are not too small, fit well with some growing room. She wears hot pants (shorts) with them. I'm not sure what else to do! Help!

Is there a sub-heading for a board for Acro Gymnastics under the -by Discipline- section? I couldn't find one.

Parents Haven't been here for awhile!

Hello everyone! I've been lurking occasionally but haven't been actively posting for awhile. My DD FINALLY made some progress on her fear of bars. She will do a skin-the-cat, glide swings, and cast. While this may not seem like much, it's major progress from not even touching the bars LOL. She...

Coaches Refuses to do 1 event

Hi! I haven't coached gymnastics for several years because I started coaching cheerleading so I'm sort of out of the loop I guess. My daughter started gymnastics last October, she is 7. She has done decent on floor, vault, and beam but she has a mental block on bars (and I have no clue where it...

Parents Winter Break is Finally Over!!!!

DD is back to gym today after a LONG break. They had a full month winter break. The gym ran mini camps from Dec. 8th-Dec. 30th and none worked with our schedule :(. She practiced at home during the break but really missed the gym. First practice back is today thank goodness. We are excited...

    Parents Levels 1-3 Rec/Pre-team

I love reading everyone's posts here. They are very helpful! I rarely see any posts about Levels 1-3. Around here, we don't have any gyms that compete levels 1-3 so it is strictly considered rec or pre-team levels. My daughter just turned 7 and started gymn late October. She has had seven...

    Parents Fear So Young *UPDATE*

Thanks to all of you again for your advice. Cheyenne has been to 3 classes now and has shown amazing improvement each week, so much that she was moved up a level this week at her 3rd class. She loves gymnastics and I'm so happy that she is gaining confidence and overcoming her fears.

    Parents Fear so young??

Hi everyone. I don't think I've posted on this board before :). A little history... I used to be a gym owner/instructor, but I closed last April. My gym started out gymnastics and turned cheerleading as I lost all of my equipment in a move and there was a higher demand for all star cheer. I was...

How To and the Start Up Costs involved

Recently I have been interested in judging. I have read quite a bit on the USAG website and trying to understand it all. If anyone would like to shed some light on this I would be very grateful as well as the start up costs involved. Thanks!

Coaches Closed my gym, now what?

Hello everyone. I have not been on here for quite some time! I am looking for some advice and hope some of you could be of assistance :). I recently closed my gym in April. It originally began as a gymnastics program and evolved into mostly all star cheerleading. Long story short- I ran a...

Coaches Fear: How far/long do you push?

I have a student who had a round off tuck consistently without a spot (all star cheerleading by the way) and all of a sudden she has fear issues. She has not fallen or done anything to cause this issue. She will not only no longer do her round off tuck, not even with a spot, she will not do her...
