    NCAA Is College Gymnastics possible?

Not gymnastics but one thing to keep in the back of your mind if gymnastics does not work out, many gymnasts go into diving and do very well. If you have a gymnast that really wants to compete in college and starts to lose her love of gymnastics as a teen, diving may also offer college...

Parents Level 6 gymnast Might quit

My JO L5 gymnast moved to Xcel in 8th grade because she did not want the stress of optionals and pressure to upgrade. Xcel was great for her for 2 seasons and she did upgrade skills but more at her own pace and upgraded skills she wasn't scared of. She enjoyed the sport and meets and the social...

    WAG Jennifer Sey Leaves Levis

I read her book years ago and she is very well spoken in Athlete A and in interviews. I think she has done a good job advocating for safety in gymnastics. However, I have heard her twitter feed is pretty rough politically regarding covid policies, vaccines, etc. if you have been reading it for...

    Parents Struggling level 6 gymnast

If she is happy and loves the sport, let her continue. Kids gain so much by being involved. Every season is not going to be a top of the podium season. Sometimes it takes 2 years to get to the top of a level and it is hard at the upper levels. My daughter had seasons where she was at the bottom...

Parents 7 year old wants to quit - Looking for advice

My daughter started competing at age 9. She had a 6 year old teammate who quit in the middle of the L3 season. She took a couple years away and came back and has been competing for several years now and is a L5/L6 and is in middle school now. If a 7 year old leaves the sport, it shouldn't be...

    WAG Evaluation of Tom Forster

Is there really a lack of gymnasts or did this Worlds just have weird timing? I recognize there were only 6 girls at the selection camp but I think this Worlds was just had weird timing because the Olympic were delayed a year. So, this quad had a lot of older girls that stayed around for an...

    Parents experience with repeating level?

It is common to repeat a level and it depends on the gym as to how they handle moving kids up. The kip is a really hard skill for kids to get and yes, the kids are at a disadvantage if they don't work that skill until the summer and then have only a short time to get it. My daughter struggled to...

WAG GOLDEN: The Journey of USA's Elite Gymnasts

Konnor's situation seems the most concerning. In episode 4 she seems to be dealing with severe anxiety. I am not judging her parents on episode 5 because I don't think there is enough shown to make any judgements. I hope her move to WOGA works out for her. I hope she can see a sports therapist...

WAG Grace McCallum?…… (US Olympic Team Discussion)

The big problem I see is if you cherry pick your team you open the door for favoritism and politics. So, for years now people rightly are critical of USAG for corruption, abuse, trying to win at all costs, only focusing on winning at the expense of the mental health of athletes. So, the...

WAG Grace McCallum?…… (US Olympic Team Discussion)

Although this current team is not ideal with strength/weaknesses. I think people forget about the controversies of the past with Olympic Team selections with Maggie Nichols, Vanessa Atler, etc. I am not a fan of cherry picking the team. One or two athletes always lose out and it's sad. Hand...

    Parents Sports after gymnastics

Diving is great for gymnasts too. They pick it up quick because of their air awareness and good form. It's a bit hard to learn to land on your head after being conditioned to land on your feet but it's a lot of fun and easier on your body than gymnastics.

    Parents Any Advice???

My DD handles her anxiety in a similar way to what you are describing. Typically she would cry and try to get out of gym practices when she switched to a new level or different coach and the conditioning became more difficult. Most of the time she would work through it. However, after L5...

Parents Help me understand state meet scores

Our state meet had a different setup this year, probably due to covid. Usually if there are multiple sessions per level, the girls compete based on age and so a gym may have girls in an earlier session and a later one. Due to covid, this year when 2 sessions were needed the girls competed in a...

Parents Tips to make meets more enjoyable?

Due to covid, sessions are smaller at meets, which is a good thing because they should be shorter. In a typical year if you have a about 40-50 girls you probably can hope to get out in 3-4 hours (ish). If you have a session of 70 girls, forget it. You are in for a long session. Bring some snacks...

Parents No Competition = No Motivation

My daughter hasn't been very motivated this year (15 yo). Many years the first meet gets her going and gets her motivated. Our first 2 meets have been cancelled. Also, part of the motivation in past years was to travel to meets we haven't been to. This year, if we compete at all, they will be...

    Thanksgiving

No word from our gym but I have thought about keeping my daughter home that week but all of December is going to be risky :(

How is it where you are?

Cases are the highest they have ever been in our area and I am not that comfortable with the precautions our gym is taking. I don't think the distancing is really there and I think there are too many people in the gym at a time. I have not pulled my daughter out yet but I am debating how long to...

    Parents What's after gymnastics?

Not all girls go into the sport and reach optionals and train 20 hours per week. My daughter started competing around age 9 and trained about 12 hours per week. This still gave her time to do other things. She had school friends and gym friends. She reached optionals around age 12 and she...

Would you send your DD - sick girl at gym?

Also, there is no way case #s are going down if all schools reopen at once :(

Would you send your DD - sick girl at gym?

Now how in the world do you open schools if this is what is happening in some states? Nothing is really safe if people cannot get tested and get results back quickly. You cannot have a functioning society if employees, kids, etc. cannot get tested in a timely manner. We do have enough testing in...
