    Parents Leotard recs

Yes, we know that probably is a contributing factor. Her problem areas have always been her joint areas (wrists, elbows, knees, ankles), but lately it’s those areas plus her entire torso, front and back so they think that specific area is from the Leo’s.

Plant based, dye free, fragrance free usually ECOS or 7th generation brand. We’ve tried them all!

    Parents Leotard recs

My youngest DD struggles with eczema. We are having a hard time keeping it under control and there is a direct correlation with her increasing her gym hours and having her eczema get worse. Our doctor seems to think that it is related to her being in leotards more frequently and the spandex...

    Parents Unpopular Opinions

This may be an unpopular opinion, but the best coaches that my kids have ever had were ones that had full time jobs outside of the gym. They coached because they had a true love of the sport and loved coaching and not because it was their career, their identity. I also think this is why we don’t...

What are some unpopular opinions that you have about gymnastics in general?

    Parents Unpopular Opinions

Seasoned gym mom here. 3 gymnasts, oldest is starting her 8th season of competing. Hindsight is always 20/20. For those seasoned parents, what are some unpopular opinions that you have about gymnastics in general? I’ll go first. 1. Private lessons are a scam. I feel like some gyms use...

    WAG $500+ competition leo!?!?

Yeah that’s pretty steep. I have a L8, L6, and XCEL Silver. The L8 and L6 fees were $325 for the GK Leo+warm up+ bags. DD3 for Silver was $250 but I bought her Leo used from someone but still had to pay for the warm ups and bag.

    Parents Higher Level Optionals

Yep. Lots of reasons why, but the #1 reason that I have seen across the board is that by the time *most* kids get to level 8, they are in middle school. My DD started competing level 2 in Kindergarten and did XCEL Silver, L3, XCEL Gold, L6, L7, and L8 starting in 6th grade. She didn’t get a...

Parents Training hours during school time.

It’s a state wide thing for me. When I followed up with het principal, she said the letter was just a formality and even though her absences were mostly ‘excused’ for medical reasons, she is still short on Horus and they are by law required to send the letter to parents. My guess is this has...

Parents Training hours during school time.

Absolutely 100% would not let my kid miss school for developmental level gymnastics practice. Also, are there rules in your state about missing hours of schooling? My DD1 had appendicitis the first week of school, then COVID, a stomach bug, missed some days due to us traveling, and I got a...

Parents Level 8 vault starting values

My DD had a very clean, crisp, non-flipping vault this season due to mental blocks. My gym is like yours. No pit and not overly concerned about ‘winning’. They meet athletes where they are at and safely work with them. She still scored high 8’s with SV around 9ish

Parents Is XCEL a waste of time?

Another XCEL to optionals gym mom here. It has worked well for my kiddos. I like the flexibility that XCEL offers in their routines, no redundancy and meets are more interesting because it’s not the same floor music playing for 3 hours straight. My DD1 did do a season of L2 and L3, so I have...

    Parents Xcel practice question

If she is Bronze, the goal should not be to rapidly learn new skills. The goal should be to perfect the basics because Bronze is what I would consider ‘entry level’ gymnastics. In season, the goal should be to build strength and get really good at basic gymnastics skills. Those handstands may...

Parents Is it time to let her move on? Daughter , level 7 has a new mental block each week.

I have 2 DD’s in optionals and they both have faced mental blocks this season, so I understand your frustration. It has a lot to do with the fact that she’s at the age where hormones are likely starting to play in as a factor. My DD’s both had growth spurts and lost some of their flexibility and...

Parents What is Your Child's Favorite Event?

DD1: Bars is her favorite but Vault has always been her high scoring event until this season. She’s petite, powerful, snd tight/pointed during her yurchenko and landing. Even with her watered down 8.6 SV because she refuses to flip a L8 vault, she still scores above 8.0. I think that is why...

Parents USAG and HS girls gymnastics

AAU is just another governing body for the sport. They oversee a variety of youth sports, not just gymnastics. They tend to be more ‘all about the kids and having fun’. They have the same levels and guidelines as USAG. Their compulsory levels (2-5) mirror USAG routines and standards, same for...

    Parents Gym Struggles

Yes, I live in a suburb of a large urban area and we have options for gyms. There is one close but their day program consists of kids who are on an elite path. I have a friend with a daughter who is in their day program and she made TOPS A this year and trains with her TOPS A teammates and 2...

    Parents Gym Struggles

We asked that and coach said not for the remainder of our USAG season. We have 2 more meets and then State meet next month and the entries are already in and done deals. However, we flip over to AAU meets in April-June and she said she could probably lower her down to 7 for that. The only bad...

    Parents Gym Struggles

She says that she wants to do gymnastics, optionals. She has also mentioned that she wants to start running with my husband to start training for cross country in the fall and has been going to some volleyball clinics to figure out what interests her. She also enjoys golfing and mentioned that...

    Parents Gym Struggles

My DD1 is really struggling this season as a 1st year L8. We’ve had a lot of things happening in our lives, so I don’t know if those could be contributing factors or if this is a sign that we either need to find a new gym or scale back all together. Backstory: we moved last summer. New school...
