I saw those that were listed, but I feel there has to be a lengthier list. Those skills are way above what an Xcel/Club Bronze would do. I don’t see them doing moys on PBars or a tuck planche on rings. So I’m trying to find a list of skills that is allowable for them.
Could someone tell me where I could find all of the allowed skills for boys Xcel program? I am going to start getting trained soon, I am currently the rec boys coach at our gym. I found the required special skills in the JO/DP handbook, but I know there must be an extensive list of skills...
Hi! Rec coach here! I’ve been coaching rec boys for one year now and I love it! Though coaching boys poses its own set of challenges, and I was never a gymnast before either. But I love to coach in general and I love the sport, my son is a gymnast. I can’t wait to give your show a listen, just...
My son was wondering if this could receive a connection bonus. He did a triple Russian on floor and immediately flaired to handstand and flaired back down. Is it a connection going directly from the triple Russian to flair? Or are these considered two separate skills? Thanks!
Is there a difference between a Chinese tap and a tkatchev tap? I thought I remembered there being a difference. Chinese Taps for bigger dismounts and a tkatchev tap for well…tkatchevs lol. Or is it the same thing? And if there is a difference, what is it?
Thanks!
My son started using grips as soon as he got his Kip. He’s never worked giants without them, unless on strap bar of course. Now I have heard of some gyms not using rings grips until later. But my son was told to start using both after his Kip on hibar. Grip strength is still anchiebed I feel...
My son is a level 8. Our guys will generally kip and then immediately swing to handstand. The kip won’t be straight body. A kip on PBars isn’t exactly the same as a kip on hibar.
Ok that makes
Ok that makes sense, thanks. I thought it would have been much more than 4 inches lol. In my head it was a very drastic change. He said the board is a lot more stiff now but he needs that for the bigger vaults. He’s always been more of a pommel guy and vault has been a “weaker”...
Our gym doesn’t do D2 at all. Xcel Bronze is used for preteam pretty much. My son went from level 4, level 5, level 5 again(due to levels changing) 6, and now 8 for this season. He will be old enough to go to level 9 next year but we are trying not to think too much ahead. And then he would most...
Hello. I have been coaching MAG rec classes for a few months now and absolutely love it! This week started our new session of rec kids. Unbeknownst to me or the head coach, two boys that are brothers are also physically disabled. They are in two different classes as they are two different...
From our gym we have three guys competing at the Winter Cup, and another competing at the Elite Team Cup! So proud of these guys, can’t wait to watch!!
I think it is multi-faceted. For one, people do not understand the sport well. Ball sports are common enough that most people understand the gist of it, even without knowing all of the rules. With ball sports one can watch it, root for a team, and understand what is going on. It is harder to...
I would love to piggyback on this thread. I have also recently started coaching rec (boys) and could use some tips. I find coaching the younger group age 5-7 easier. They listen better, want to do well, and work hard. My older rec group of boys ages 8-10 (some are 11), do not listen as well, do...
I am loving it, and the kids seem happy lol. I love to watch their confidence and strength grow!
