She should be able to use her diamond routine with a few modifications for the L6 requirements. Level 6 uses their own routines vs compulsory. Curious - are all the girls at her level looking to move to DP? If so, then why doesn't the gym have them compete DP? As a parent, I would want more...
as a parent I would just want to know whether the gym have optional level gymnasts? If they didn't want to do 5 and now 6, is it realistic to expect that they will want to coach 7? Where would the girls come from at that point? Many smaller gyms will group their 7-10 levels, which is fine if...
If she has the potential to reach college level (= in regard to her own potential and age timing and the gym coaches' ability) then I would lean toward keeping her in DP. I would much rather set her up for that potential in case she wants it later on then to switch and and have her regret it...
This topic comes up every year around this time. The premise of Nationals is a competition among the regions, just the Olympics are among the countries. Each region sends their best gymnasts to compete on the national stage. The problem with this rationale is that it doesn't end up that way...
Somehow I missed that you had a male gymnast as well! What level? sorry he missed state. Thankfully, plenty of time to rest up and feel better for regionals!
having gone through college gymnastics as a parent, I can tell you that many/most of the gymnasts prefer that look and feel. I was shocked when I found this out. I do agree that whoever is designing the leos has input as to what style they choose to reduce the ability for the gymnasts to hike up...
I would be out of there, especially if you have an alternative. Your kids deserve better treatment and training. We have known families who have moved in the last 1 and 2 years of high school. It's not ideal but as long as the new gym understands the situation and is willing to work with the...
Assuming she progresses well and stays healthy, she still has a good shot for being a L10 as a freshman/sophomore in HS, which is generally the goal for college recruiting. I bolded that phrase because that is THE key in gymnastics. Progresses well (minimal fears, blocks, experienced coaches...
Our state meets run solely by age division. It is crazy for the coaches because they often have lots of back to back sessions of just 1-3 gymnasts each from their individual gym. I have seen what you reference in the chart in large meets, where they will divide the larger teams from the smaller...
The numbers are usually similar year to year so you could look at the number of gymnast's who completed in yourvlevel and state at State meet last year and estimate it based on what that state was allotted for spots last year.
I don't have X so I couldn't read the replies. Just my two cents in general: We have to remember that when we compare to L10, these college gymnasts have been training longer (as much as 4 years for seniors) and most are specialists so they have the extra time in practice to focus on cleaning...
dd had one when she was young, lower levels. Same situation, urgent care missed it and ortho saw it on new xrays a few days later. That's pretty common with buckle fractures (a lot of minor fractures actually). Can't really compare return to training/competition because she was only doing old...
I didn't realize states had pre-selected age groups like 9/10 nationals. I thought all states divided age groups evenly among the competitors. DD's state meets always had roughly the same number of girls in every age group between 15-25, depending on the level
No. The numbers will change based on state qualifiers for this year. However, year to year, the numbers typically don't change a huge amount so you can use it as a guideline
This thread is from 2012. I though CB locked old threads so that they are not reignited causing confusing with old information. So much has changed with JO/DP and xcel since 2012.
This is assuming that parents are primarily putting their children into gymnastics for a "payout" like a scholarship. While this certainly happens, the vast majority of parents are not looking for a financial payout from gymnastics.
Xcel is designed to be a less expensive, less intensive program so it makes sense for the leos to be less expensive (tank vs full sleeve) and not wanting to spend money on the coaches going to state/regionals as well as reducing expenses for the families. I disagree with the state meet but...
The most realistic way for an xcel or high school only gymnast to be recruited to a D3 is if the gymnast is at a much higher level on Vt or Bars - a 9.8+ SV vt, an excellent bar worker who can upgrade easily for a 10.0 SV.
Over the past several years, most D3 teams have been able to recruit...
If you, as a new gym parent, can see that her legs are bent and legs open, then chances are there are many more form deductions there and that skill is not ready for competition. Personally, I would not ask the coach and would just tell my dd that the coach will let her compete it when they feel...
