    WAG Endurance ideas

Interval work and just aerobic work in general. You could just go ride your bike to school/work every day. That covers at least the basics. Add some HIIT at home (no need for impact work, do Kettlebell work, squats, deadlifts etc. instead) and you are all set.

    Ankle injury

This. Unbelievable. Very thankful to have universal mandatory healthcare. This is borderline neglect.

    Ankle injury

You need to see a doctor and get x-rays to rule out a fracture. Then find a physiotherapist to ensure optimal recovery. In general use lots of ice all day long, put the foot up all day long.

Off Topic What do competitive gymnasts eat in a day?

Fries (fried in fat!) and hamburgers let alone chicken nuggets (fried in fat!) not cooked by yourself are usually highly processed foods, so yes, this is "fast food" to my German mind. Here this is nothing we would feed kids (!) several (!) times a week. These are treats for special occasions...

Off Topic What do competitive gymnasts eat in a day?

Fast food several times a week? Wow. Perhaps a cultural thing. In Germany this is not the norm and considered a treat for kids, definitely nothing to eat several times a week even for non athletes.

Gymnasts Retired Gymnast Wanting to Stay Strong

Please be very careful with Crossfit. It has a huge injury potential and is not ideal from a GPP perspective. I would stick to your gymnastics conditioning or add some olympic weightlifting (not for endurance like in many CF-Wods, just for strength and speed). Make sure you get a coach who knows...

    Gymnasts Training with muscle ache

It will be fine. You can not "overtrain" working out two times a week several days apart. Keep going, suck it up. If the pain is really bad try to add in light (!) strength work on your off days and use everything that increases blood flow, like going for a bike ride, light jogging, walks, hot...

    WAG Running, weights, and age

She should be doing lots of little games and activites with other kids her age to improve strength and speed, jumping and having fun. Think tag or running up and rolling down hills and the like. That is more than enough for age 7. Weights are not advisable for any 7 year old ever. Distance...

    Off Topic Sports after gymnastics

Olympic weightlifting. Short strong people, lots of grit and reps involved, lots of coordination. Gymnasts are perfect.

    WAG “Army” push-ups

Negatives and hands on raised surface. For some folks this will be the wall. Work your way down over some weeks or months. Dropping to your knees changes the exercises too much in my opinion.

Off Topic Cant balance handstand, any helpful tips?

Walking is easier to learn and makes a handstand much more difficult to do. Go the other way round.

Off Topic Cant balance handstand, any helpful tips?

It is more difficult to relearn a already drilled in skill in a slightly different way than to learn it the right way from the start or (in this case) to learn the more basic skill first. Really, this is a standard problem in CF classes. Most people are able to handstand walk, nearly no one...

Off Topic Cant balance handstand, any helpful tips?

Walking on hands leads to people who can walk on their hands just fine but always keep running away on those hands instead of standing still and balancing. Ask a quadrillion crossfitters trying to hold a handstand without a wall. Walking for many meters but that's about it. Very hard to break as...

    Off Topic Annoying coach

He is the coach for a reason... You are the athlete. Form is always important, in every sport. Do as he asks of you - I am sure you will move up in no time if you start working on your form. Stop resisting, start working.

    Parents Engaging the core

In track we teach "stand tall on your toes and start your exercise from there" (like skipping, running, sprinting, dribbling, hurdling etc.). Engages the core and sets them up the right way.

Parents Tearing up during practice and favoritism

If there is no other gym nearby - find another sport. This is not worth it.

    WAG Coach Issues

If you are on here you are old enough to just refuse to do things that hurt you. Do not do this stuff.

    Parents Multiple Sports

As to literature - difficult question. There are detailed training programs for track and weightlfting and so on for different age groups which are taught in coaches' education (which is mandatory here if you want to get public funding) but I do not know of any translations...

Thanks for putting in words what I meant. What US youth sports do is *very* different from European youth training programs.

    Parents Multiple Sports

No, they do not. The training in the off season for one sport is just set up very differently here than it seems to be done in the US. We do what we do according to results from sports science and also without youth sports being an industry. You do lots of general training in one sport in the...
