Parents Need help finding a sport psychologist

I do believe it could have been vestibular which is why I have sat back for 2 years waiting for it become just a minor nuisance, but I do feel that it is affecting her pysche in other ways. We have met with coaches on several occasions over these struggling years...individually and as a...

Parents Need help finding a sport psychologist

I have looked Doc Ali's site...printed off material for her to read...purchased the Train your mind CD.... Hasn't worked because I can't get her to believe it will help since she feels like it is all her fault and the only thoughts that go through her head is how she is going to fail. She...

Parents Need help finding a sport psychologist

My 14 yr old DD has spent 8 years in the sport and is currently level 8 for the third time. She has a fear of back tumbling that she battles. She has been battling mental blocks her whole career. When she is confident, she is a beautiful gymnast and excels however, when the fear starts...she...

My DD (12yr L8) has this lovely habit of cracking her bones....just about all of them and just about all the time...toes, fingers, back, neck....I am thinking it is a nervous habit... I am trying to just let it ride it's course but has anyone heard of any long term issues with misaligning...

Parents Ideas for displaying child's medals from meets

My DDs shelf is very similar to SamIam's media wall shelf except instead of pegs, we mounted black curtain rods and her awards stretch the entire wall. Also, it is a little lower so that all her trophies/plaques and such sit on top. Not real expensive to do..Just pine 1x4's stained to the...

Specialists an Option at Level 7 or 8?

My DD was an excellent floor worker until lvl 7 and that point it switched to beam. As her body grew and new skills came along she has found a new love for a different apparatus. I would hate to have locked her into being a floor specialist come to find out that beam would have been her true...

Is there a reason for the rush to get to higher levels?

Here is my humorous spin on things..I think your DD teammate's mom is just trying to get in your head and take out the competition :p. She wants you to slow your daughter down so her daughter can catch up and get some of the glory and spotlight in the gym. She is passing her insecurities onto...

    Safest path

As long as she is happy, progressing and still enjoying the sport in all ways, I would think moving her along as the coaches suggest will be fine. Just a food for thought..physically keeping up with the older girls is obviously not a problem but how about socially? My DD is a 9yr lvl 7 too...

    2012 YMCA Nationals

I found an article where it was announced that the YMCA of Metro. Milwaukee will host the event in 2012. I was kinda hoping somewhere further south, like Florida, but oh well.

    College Gymnastics

With tats becoming more commonplace, I would think a bunch of tape stuck on a gymnasts back would be more distracting to a judge. just sayin :)

    Parents New Gym--Very different atmosphere

I know it isn't your views :) I think Y programs get a bad wrap sometimes. What some may not know that not all Y programs are low hours and low costs and low scoring. Which is why I love this forum so we can all share our experiences and try to understand this crazy sport. My DD lvl 7 trains...

    Parents New Gym--Very different atmosphere

Oh my! My DD trains in one of those "mediocre Y" programs and I have to say when we complete against big USAG gyms we do have quite a few standouts in the 36AA-37AA range. So raspberries to that coach who put us down.

My DD is a 9 yr old LvL 7 in the USAG and YMCA program. My 2 DS' have shown some interest but my bank book doesn't, steering them towards soccer :)

    Push through the pain

Funny little story. My DH had trained in martial arts for years in our early "honeymoon" years..pre-kids. He recently came across a local MMA gym that would allow him to do the type of training he used to do in order to get back into shape. First night there, he was wiped out. Just not as...

    Parents Wiped out!

Our state does have a YMCA states meet just like USAG. In fact, some levels have their meets the same weekends as USAG which makes it difficult and you have to choose. Some Y's do not choose to participate. The qualifying scores are about 1 pt lower than the USAG qualifying scores and they...
