    WAG Average Progression

Is it really mandatory? What if you have a child who scores high and is clearly ready to move to the next level? Do they hold her back just because they have this rule? Or does it just seem that it's mandatory just because *most* kids need to repeat a level at some point? In our gym the...

Parents How do you feel about youtube?

This is a great thread! I haven't been on here in awhile but saw a post about this thread on FB and came by to read the responses. I have a YouTube account that I started when my daughter was about 9 months old and have a ton of videos on it. We have no family nearby so it's a way to share...

    NBC Online Coverage Issues?

How come you are able to watch replays of every other sport on the NBC website EXCEPT gymnastics? I was not up at 1:30am or 6:40am (PST) when the first two groups of the women's qualifications were going on and was hoping to be able to watch when I woke up, but unlike every other sport, there...

    Opening Ceremonies...what did you think?

That was so awesome! I really thought they did a great job on the opening ceremony. My 6 year old even stayed up until midnight to watch the whole thing. I did think Paul McCartney was a little weak at the end, but that's ok. The rest was fantastic. I just found myself watching Badminton...

Parents Hours of practice at different levels?

    We are at a Y, so I don't know if that makes a difference.. here's ours: Level 3 - 4 or 6 hours (there are 2 groups) Level 4 - 9 hours Level 5 - 10.5 hours w/ optional 4th day for an extra 3.5 hrs Level 6 - 14.5 hours

    Off Topic Foreign Exchange Student?

When I was 16 we hosted a girl from Germany for the summer (8 weeks or so). It was a great experience for my family. I remember there were lots of opportunities for all of the students from this group of exchange students to get together and lots of activities planned for both the students and...

What type of school does your gymnast attend???

Oh here we go...the whole "homeschooled kids are weird and unsocialized" stereotype. Why is that always the first thing people jump on when the topic of homeschooling comes up? Is a public school where kids sit in a classroom with other kids their same age all day long the only place a child...

    Mckenna, American Girl movie

I just watched the trailer and it looks really cute! My daughter has the McKenna doll (gift from Grandma) and has read both books and ADORES her. I had no idea there was a movie. We'll have to pick it up the next time we're at Walmart. I checked Amazon but didn't see a DVD version, only the...

    Level 4 Invite & Focus

I'm hoping this will be the case. I think she has gotten very "comfortable" in her group. Most of the kids are somewhat close in age, though there are some older ones in her group. I hope that when she is put in a group with kids she doesn't know, many who are older, along with a new coach...

    Level 4 Invite & Focus

Thanks so much for the responses! Gymdog, we have little chats like that in the car before every practice but I haven't used the "make sure you face the station you're waiting on" one. I usually use the less specific "stay in line". I'll try to be a bit more specific with her and maybe...

    Level 4 Invite & Focus

My daughter got her official invite to Level 4 tonight at gymnastics. Up until a week ago I was about 99% sure she wasn't going to be moved up. Her coach told me last week that she put her on the list but that she was going to have to prove to her that she could focus and pay attention enough...

Parents Competition Readiness (another long post from me)

It was very reassuring to read some of the responses in this thread! Thanks for posting about your daughter. :)

Parents Competition Readiness (another long post from me)

I haven't read the responses yet, but except for the paragraph about how your daughter takes corrections, you described my daughter exactly. Mine is a year older than yours (will be 7 in October). She's done pre-team for 2 years and has almost all the skills to move to Level 4 but I doubt...

    How many hours a week?

Though it does seem that YMCA's often practice less hours, we're at a Y and the 6's go 14.5 hours. 9.5 hours does seem a bit on the low side.

    Year of the Dragon leo

Oh really? Since no one was actually posting a direct link I started thinking that maybe that was a no-no....I know that you can't sell stuff directly on these boards so I didn't know if posting a link to something for sale was the same thing...though now that I'm typing it out and thinking it...

Technical video question for coaches/judges/techies (Level 3 Vault)

I'm no coach, but her vaults are awesome. I would have loved if my Level 3 daughter did vaults like that. Mine hasn't quite figured out how to punch the springboard hard enough to fly off of it the way your daughter does. Those scores are excellent. I really wouldn't worry about it too much.

    Pac Rim Meet Report

As pretty as some of the leotards were, the one thing that I couldn't help noticing (and I watched on TV/YouTube, we weren't able to make it to the meet) is that the leotard companies need to start making leotards that are a little bigger in the rear. It was hard not to notice that there wasn't...

    Parents Home Schooling

Khan Academy is excellent. We use that to supplement our math curriculum because according to my daughter who claims to not enjoy math, anything on the computer is FUN! I even got sucked in and did some of the lessons...I'm a nerd. ;)

Pac Rims WAG NBC coverage on youtube

Thanks for sharing! How cute was the New Zealand team? Loved watching them. I wish we could have made it to the meet since we're in the area, but it just didn't work out for us this time.
