MAG Coaches, what do you think about taking time off?

My son a 10 year old, just finished his second year of level 6. He is struggling right now with wanting to take some time off. Actually he goes back and forth wanting to quit and then loving it. One issue is the time that gym takes (4 nights per week) and not getting to play with all the...

Hey everyone! DS (age 10-level 6) has been having some wrist pain over the past several weeks....there was no injury, and it's not bad pain, just the kind where I catch him rubbing or shaking his wrists....his coach suggested getting him wrist guards, which I will do....any good suggestions on...

Parents Switching Gyms...Making the decision and how to leave

Issues with the other coach are mostly integrity issues...I've caught him in several lies, and just general trying to make the other coach look bad.....Other issues are that he's never managed to keep a boy past level 6. Last year we had 5 level 6 boys....every single one of them quit, I know...

Parents I learned a lot this past weekend....

I have noticed the same thing. My son is an an extremely competitive age group and usually only places on vault (got 3rd at state this past weekend!) So I was so excited this weekend when he got he stayed on the pommel horse and got his best score ever....he literally fell to his knees in...

Parents Switching Gyms...Making the decision and how to leave

Thanks, it is very helpful to hear what has happened to others in this situation. I should clarify that when I say recrtuit, I probably don't mean recruit (that's really not my personality), but more see who is even considering leaving....and go from there. Actually the boy who left last year...

Parents Switching Gyms...Making the decision and how to leave

LOL....I'm the same way I think (and talk which my DH just loves) every decision to death...and no matter which one I choose I always wonder if we made the right choice....

Parents Switching Gyms...Making the decision and how to leave

gymjourneymom - the friend thing is going to be our biggest hurdle I think. He has been with some of these boys since he was 4....and it's a small team, so they are all very close. Also there were some issues with the boy who left....with other boys calling him a 'traitor' so I'm sure he'd...

Parents Switching Gyms...Making the decision and how to leave

Thanks everyone....DS loves gymnastics and at this point, he says he's never quitting. He and his best friend (who won't ever switch gyms, and lives on our block) have plans to compete on the same college team when they are older LOL. There is no easy answer to this question.....I'm...

Parents Switching Gyms...Making the decision and how to leave

Hi everyone! A little background. I have a 9year old level 6 boy. He was with the assistant coach for his level 4 and level 5 seasons....we love love love this coach...then when he moved to level 6 he got the head coach. We have lots of issues with the head coach, as do other parents...one...

MAG building flexibility in a pre-team boy

I agree that it just takes stretching and patience. And some of the tighter boys do cry from the stretching....but I think it's the only way.

MAG Back Injury vs Mental Freak Out?

Thanks Gymtaxi! He is fine now. by the time we had our appt with the doc, he was no longer complaining. He is back at practice and we haven't heard a word about the back since last week. He wouldn't do his back tuck at first...but finally got it, and now is doing it fine.

MAG Back Injury vs Mental Freak Out?

Okay, so I have a call into the pediatrician to see if they will do an xray, other than that, what kind of doc do you think I should take him to? Orthopedist?

MAG Back Injury vs Mental Freak Out?

wow....now you guys are making me wonder...... I was just coming on here to post that he answered the question. He walked in the door from practice and said 'Best practice ever!' He then proceeded to tell me all about his great rings and pbars routines. His sister saw the rings routine and...

MAG Back Injury vs Mental Freak Out?

Hi everyone! How do you tell the difference between a legitimate injury and a complete mental freak out? My son is 9 years old and competing his first year as a level 6. He had a mediocre level 5 year last year, but improved greatly over the summer and we decided to move him up (I posted...

    MAG Qualifying for Men's Regionals

Yes, I think it's set by each state. Our state always sets the number really low. I don't think we've ever had a gymnast at our gym not qualify based on the state requirement. Given that, our coaches usually set a score for qualification that's a bit higher.

    MAG Level 5's to Regionals?

In the past our level 5's have always gone to regionals. And according to the schedule our coach posted for this year, level 5's are going again. (Not sure if you mean that in the past level 5's didn't go to regionals?) Not sure if it varies by region, but we are in region 4.

MAG Boys team.....dealing with a problem child!!!???

I don't have any good suggestions, just wanted to say I think every gym must have one of these kids. We had one for a long time, his family was just as bad. At the meets, no one wanted to sit with them, the mom wouldn't watch her other children, it was just a train wreck. He got sent home...

MAG Should we move my son from L5 to L6?

Just an update. This past week the coach finally 'officially' invited him to work out level 6 hours. The plan for now is that he will train level 6, compete one or 2 level 5 meets, and then we'll decide if he should move to level 6. His problem now is that he is nowhere near getting the...
